Default The Assignment (Michelle Rodriguez/Sigourney Weaver/dir: Walter Hill)

Basic story: a hitman is abducted and wakes up to find he was given an unwanted sex change operation (or gender re-assignment, hence the title) as revenge for someone he killed.
... I sh!t you not.

What a strange movie. Hit VOD this weekend.
The biggest problem is the early scenes with Rodriguez made up (supposedly) to look like a man. It looks silly (especially one scene where they make a point of showing him full frontal naked), and they would have been better off just finding a man to play the role for those scenes.
(On the plus side, if you ever wanted to see Rodriguez as a woman naked, you get that, too )
Rodriguez also uses a weird voice the whole time, I guess to try to sound more manly.

After I saw this, I searched again for previous threads that might have already been started but had a different title. Found this one from 2015 when it was called "Tomboy"

Well according to Joblo it was called Tomboy as recently as 23 February:

I was surprised when I saw this thread and it's now called The Assignment. Reassignment (which I believe was it's original title) was so much better considering the subject matter.

Last Man Standing is still a Bruce Willis and Walter Hill gem, IMO. I haven't seen much of Hill's other work (least I recall unless I get some recommendations), but LMS is still good.

His last few films after Last Man Standing have been poor compared to his earlier and best work like Trespass, Extreme Prejudice, 48 Hrs, The Warriors and The Driver.

I still think the early Walter Hill films are classics and his early 90's run of Trespass, Geronimo and Wild Bill were all underrated, terrific films. Even films I was critical of initially, like Extreme Prejudice and Last Man Standing, look a lot better in retrospect. I really enjoyed Bullet To The Head (and I say that as someone who's never cared much for Stallone), which showed Hill's talent for shooting action is as strong and coherent as ever (when fractured and over-edited action sequences have depressingly become the norm).

I'll certainly give this a try, and it's nice to see Hill's sense of humor still looks intact!
