Paramount The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) coming from Paramount Presents!

It's official, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance will be the first 4K Paramount Presents title! Release date is May 17th.

Quote:
Paramount Presents brings one of the greatest movies of the Western genre to 4K UHD with HDR. Pioneering Oscar-winning director John Ford brings together an all-star cast that features (for the first time together) John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart, alongside Vera Miles, Lee Marvin, John Carradine and Lee Van Cleef. Adapted from a short story by Dorothy M. Johnson, the screenplay by James Warner Bellah and Willis Goldbeck left us with an iconic quote—“when the legend becomes fact, print the legend."

First 4K Ultra HD in the Paramount Presents Line Debuts May 17, 2022
with New and Legacy Bonus Content

One of the greatest Westerns in cinematic history arrives for the first time ever on 4K Ultra HD with High Dynamic Range (HDR) as part of the Paramount Presents line when THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE debuts May 17, 2022 from Paramount Home Entertainment.

Four-time Academy Award®-winning* director John Ford brought together an all-star cast for what is considered by many critics to be a quintessential—and yet pioneering—Western late in his storied career. Starring James Stewart and John Wayne (together for the first time), alongside Vera Miles, Lee Marvin, John Carradine and Lee Van Cleef, THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE tells the engrossing story of a senator (Stewart), his old friend (Wayne), and a despicable outlaw called Liberty Valance (Marvin).

THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE was selected in 2007 for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” Adapted from a short story by Dorothy M. Johnson, the screenplay by James Warner Bellah and Willis Goldbeck gave us the often-quoted line “When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.”

Meticulously remastered in stunning 4K Ultra HD for its 60th anniversary this year, THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE is presented in collectible packaging featuring a foldout image of the film’s original theatrical poster and an interior spread with key movie moments. The release also includes access to a Digital copy of the film and a Blu-ray Disc™ with a new Filmmaker Focus featuring film historian Leonard Maltin discussing John Ford, the film, and its legacy. The Blu-ray™ also includes legacy bonus content as detailed below:
Filmmaker Focus – Leonard Maltin on The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance—NEW!
Feature commentary by filmmaker Peter Bogdanovich, along with his archival recordings with John Ford and James Stewart
Selected scene commentary with introduction by Dan Ford, along with his archival recordings with John Ford, James Stewart and Lee Marvin
The Size Of Legends, The Soul Of Myth
Chapter 1: Changing Of The Guard
Chapter 2: The Irascible Poet
Chapter 3: The Hero Doesn’t Win, The Winner Isn’t Heroic
Chapter 4: Most Things Happen By Accident

Chapter 7: Print The Legend

[Show spoiler]Update: Target has a pre-order up for a 4K release of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance!

https://www.target.com/p/ka-man-who-...75#lnk=sametab

Wall Street Journal wrote an article detailing Paramount's Presents line, and at the end of the article they confirmed The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance will be part of it, as well as Ordinary People (which we knew). They also stated there will be 4K versions of some of the Presents titles coming too.

I called it. Also don't mind double dipping if some titles go UHD because you never know which ones will be green light for UHD.

Better than this news is the PP line getting exposure on WSJ. Always a good thing when physical media garners some attention in the publishing world. Glad that the line is not only still active but that it appears to be gaining momentum, now with 4K. Great news.

So from that quote it kind of sounds like “don’t buy these releases cause they’re going to get 4ks as well”

I don't see a lot of the PP titles getting the 4K treatment, and I think they'll probably start with earlier releases like Roman Holiday, rather than more recent stuff. Harold and Maude seems like an obvious future title, as does Nashville, but maybe down the line, so as not to hurt PP sales.

I could see Ghost and Fatal Attraction getting UHD releases, and maybe 48 Hrs.

Choices. Do I grab the ones I want in the Presents series or do I wait for an eventual 4K of them?

i'm super stoked for The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

I’m really very happy with my current BD of this film. I’m guessing that the upcoming PP version will include all the special features from the deluxe DVD, that were not ported over to the BD. Wish this announcement was for The Shootist or Donovan’s Reef instead.

Just saw the 3 Godfathers this weekend on TCM, which I hadn't seen before but loved it. Another neglected Wayne classic directed by John Ford, which also needs a blu ray release.

I'll definitely will go for this. I remember watching this in a cinema in barcelona with like 2 other people in 1995. Its a fantastic movie, not just a western, its much more than a western. Its one of those nostalgic stories that really gets to you, and it has an echo that reverberates throughout the final sequences with a lot of power.

Quite often Ive found myself thinking about this movie and the feeling it evokes, one of my favorite ford movies alongside drums along the mohawk and the searchers, and for what I know about ford, this is one of the movies he made that have more of a ford imprint. He has that tough, but very poetic vein that so many irishmen have (in my experience). Ford didnt like to admit he had artistic tendencies, but he was an artist and he aspired to be, whether consciously or not.

I'll wait to see the announcement for the upcoming re-release. Would love for a lossless version of the mono track and the SE DVD extras to be included.
