Disney Mary Poppins (1964) (50th Anniversary Edition)

Mary Poppins Blu-ray

UPDATE:

First indications of Marry Poppins Blu-ray are starting to pop up.

From blu-ray-disc.de (translated):

Quote:
The FSK (Voluntary Self-Monitoring of the film industry) has recently released a trailer for the 50th Anniversary from the Disney classic "Mary Poppins" (Great Britain, USA 1964) tested. The long at 24 frames per second, 1 minute and 37 seconds trailer was unsurprisingly released "without age restriction" and gives a first indication of a possible release of the classic on Blu-ray Disc Although currently have no information about a high-definition release of available, we expect a release of approximately 2.5 hours long on the novels by PL Travers based musical until next year. In 2009 it was the 45th Anniversary with a special DVD Collection 2 discs, so that a release appears unlikely this year.display*
According to them, German BD is due for release in March '14.

Here's the BD cover of Marry Poppins posted in Disney Middle East thread:

The HDTV has some of the worst DNR I have ever seen layered with sharpening on top.
I hope they have re-scanned

50th Anniversary makes sense. Hopefully it holds true. Thanks for the info.

Nice! I hope that this road eventually leads to the Blu-ray releases of other classic live-action Disney films (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Something Wicked This Way Comes, The Black Hole, The Swiss Family Robinson, etc.).

Black Hole will only hit when the remake comes out, same with 20,000

Wasn't the last DVD edition zoomed in quite a bit (cropped on all four sides)? I think it was framed at 1.66:1, which I guess is OK but wouldn't have been the way it was shown in U.S. theaters (would have been 1.85:1).

I suspect that the BD release has been pushed back so it doesn't step on toes of the Saving Mr. Banks movie release, which is slated for the end of year. I'm sure their reasoning is that the Saving Mr. Banks movie will generate more interest in the original movie and create some pent-up demand for when the Mary Poppins BD finally hits the stores. Pure marketing genius.

I kinda can't see Mary Poppins being released round the same time as Saving Mr. Banks, cause most children audience (5-13 year olds) wouldn't want to see a biography film, they'd want to see the actual movie.

As for me, I'm glad Mary Poppins is comin to blu, hopefully they'll port over most of the 40th/45th aniv. bonuses, I'd like to see more deleted concept, the dance rehearsals of Step In Time

Who's talking about children? Parents are the ones buying the movies and when they see the Saving Mr. Banks release, I think it will motivate them to share the movie with their kids.

I understand what you guys are sayin, just gon'na drop it.

I believe Saving Mr. Banks is Disney's 1st or 2nd Biography that focused on Disney History, fully aware of Behind The Myth (documentary on Walt Disney) which was great, but Disney's kinda taking a risk of producing a biography featuring its founder in a limelight (the film focuses mostly on Ms. Travers)

I'd like to see a steelbook for this film, could reuse one of these postesr for the steelbook/blu ray

http://www.impawards.com/1964/mary_poppins_ver4.html

(could be used for Steelbook)

This poster looks like it came from the early 90s (possibly) but was Mary Poppins re released round 1988-1990??

In my opinon Disney may reuse/remake this poster for the blu ray

I just got to see the Broadway version on this last month. So much better than the movie imo, although the character of MP is written up much more like a know-it-all. Anyone else seen it? I wish that was on blu.

Not to mention those of us adults who still watch kids' movies on our own.

I was thinking the same thing. Disney loves a good tie-in!

Somebody recently asked to borrow this and that is when I realized it wasn't on Blu. My wife loves this movie so I'll be getting Day 1.

I actually cracked my wife up one night when I started laughing uncontrollable to the "I love to laugh" part of the movie. Great scene and I'll definitely be getting this when it hits.
