I recently saw some screen captures of the US blu-ray and it was painfully clear, that an earlier dvd edition had MUCH more detail. Caveat emptor.

Well, I own it and I would suggest that "screen captures" do not provide you all the information you may wish for.
I find the transfer is excellent considering the source provided and have yet to hear from others stating different.

I also have the US BD release and think it looks good enough. Prefer the BD over the DVD.

I don't expect a new 4K restoration any time soon, so this will have to do.
