USA V/H/S: Viral (2014)

Pre-Order

Enjoyed the first two better, my opinion.

I've enjoyed V/H/S & V/H/S 2 a lot, so much I bought them on Blu ray and was looking forward to Viral but the main story within the film was shit and the only first two segments were actually good.

As there only were three stories and the wrap-around was rather brief you liked it a lot better than I did.

The only decent thing about this movie was the middle segment, the other two including the wrap around story were awful, huge step down from VHS 2!

I liked the first two, but I loved part 3.

The segment about the magician makes this worth the price of admission. Really extraordinary. I liked the parallel worlds segment too. Some great creative segments in this, but lame-o wraps (like the first two). Looking forward to the blu.

Extras:
  • Gorgeous Vortex – A Short Film by Todd Lincoln
  • Audio Commentary with Directors
  • Bonestorm: Behind the Scenes Featurette
  • FX Storyboards
  • Galleries
  • Dante the Great: Behind The Magic of Dante The Great
  • Photo Gallery
  • Director Interviews
  • AXS TV: A Look at V/H/S: Viral

It's restoring the sequence that cut just prior to release (separately from the main feature). Doubt it'll make the movie any better though. The series isn't that great as a whole and this was easily the worst.

That sequence was directed by the person responsible for The Apparition. It'll probably make the movie worse than it already is.

I agree with the other posters. I enjoyed the first two films quite a bit. This one was awful.

Has anyone bought this on blu? I've seen it everywhere for only 13.99 and I'm tempted to blind buy it later today. It seems like the only way to see the cut short Gorgeous Vortex. I loved the first 2 so I am curious about this one even if it's gotten a lot of hate.

Can anyone that grabbed the Canadian version of this confirm that many of the extras are missing including the Commentary? Judging by the back, it looks like it was neutered as far as extras are concerned.

I'm in the same boat. Own and enjoy the first 2 and heard pretty bad, some mixed reviews about this one. So..I ended up blind buying at $14. If it sucks, ah well..I'm a completionist lol

So just over one year later from my comments on page one and I finally scored a New Copy of the Blu for $9.49 earlier this week and watched the film for the second time just now. I still stand by my comments that this is EASILY the worst film in the franchise and is still a Major disappoint considering how great the first two films were. When your title is "V/H/S" and your material all centers around Footage contained on VHS tapes, why would you ever go away from that? I can understand the idea of wanting to push the series forward, but this could still have been done within the confines of the series and it's VHS premise. With that said, I do agree with sentiment shared last year that some of these segments are just a blast and are enjoyable as the short films that they are.

This was also my first time watching Gorgeous Vortex.... what a HUGE pile of pretentious crap that was. This had no business in the film and I'm glad it was cut..

For as disappointed as I was in the main film, it was at least a mostly coherent somewhat enjoyable if not mundane experience... Gorgous Vortex was like a shitty 90's Calvin Klein commercial by a film school hipster dropout with a "monster" shoe horned in because someone at Magnet told him at the last minute that he was shooting a horror movie and demanded he included something.

I seriously can't imagine the series getting any worse than this, and while I don't expect to ever see another entry in the franchise, I'd still be 100% on board. Southbound, the spiritual successor of the Franchise was a decent enough anthology but still lacked the excitement of the first two V/H/S films. I want another entry in the V/H/S Franchise to write the wrongs that were Viral.

Like most people on here I thoroughly enjoyed VHS and VHS 2 but Viral is bad. I enjoyed the parallel monsters in the film and though it was odd I liked Gorgeous Vortex. As far as prices go I think I got mine from a vendor on Amazon for 8 or 9 dollars.

Somewhat related; there's apparently plans to do a spinoff called Siren based on the first short from the first movie but will not be found footage. I'll probably see it

For those interested, Italy has a trilogy set. Three discs (not sure which versions), English and Italian language, Italian subs only.
