Are there any DVD's that you own that you are particularly impressed with when upscaling them?
A few titles that I've noticed look really good are: -ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 (the new version with Ethan Hawke) -JOY RIDE -MISSION IMPOSSIBLE III I haven't watched many of my DVD's upscaled yet, but thought this would make an interesting thread... |

Star wars episode 3 upscales very very well, as did transformers.
Most modern dvd's are pretty good. Some older ones like platoon have left alot to be desired. |

Many of the newer dvd's (less than 3 years old) that are double-layered and have little to no special features on the same disc look great.
Most single layered and double-sided discs look bad though. |

I watched Transformers upscaled and it looked better than the HD-DVD version.

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK looked really good upscaled. This is probably the best quality we're gonna get of INDIANA JONES for a while since Paramount hasn't turned BLU yet. Hopefully they get their shiznit together before KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL hits home video.

Just don't compare animation to regular movies. There is nowhere near the amount of detail there, so it's not a good way to gauge quality differences.

Speaking of previews on Disney BDs: I can't recall if it was Cars or Ratatouille (and it probably doesn't matter because it's surely the same future-Disney-BD teaser on both), but I saw a very tiny snippet of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" framed considerably wider than Fantasia's original aspect ratio. Anyone else catch it? That had to have something to do with maintaining continuity in the teaser, right? I mean, they can't possibly be creating a widescreen presentation, can they? |
