Default Four Christmases for Winter 2009

Warner has informed that the hit comedy will make its way on Blu-ray by a late November release or possibly by mid December of 2009. There is really no specific date to when it'll be released but expected day release is Winter time of this year.

Four Christmases stars Vince Vaughn, Reese Witherspoon, Sissy Spacek, Robert Duvall and John Voight.

Wow, that's really late. A whole year after its theatrical debut, just because it's a Christmas movie?

That is usually the case with Christmas movies. Elf and Santa Clause 3 are recent examples. One Christmas movie that didn't use this release method was Bad Santa, but that wasn't much of a Christmas movie. It makes sense to wait until the following holiday season to release movies like these. I can't imagine a whole lot of people wanting to watch a Christmas movie in May.

Yep, holiday movies tend to be released on home video closer to the following holiday season.

Yea its a trend....last year 'This Christmas' was like that and the year before I believe Santa Clause 3 was and so on. Usually they get a theatrical release then a year later they see the light of dvd

Fred Claus was also the same way, waiting a year, as was Elf. It doesn't make a ton of sense to release a Christmas themed movie in June when nobody is in the holiday spirit so they wait until November. Bad Santa was an exception, as it was released on DVD in June, but that wasn't truly a Christmas movie as much as a heist movie.

It's all marketing. People aren't likely to buy a Christmas movie in June.

Yeah, but then people forget that the movie even came out. I don't know if a year of waiting really helps its sales.

Eh...I think I'll pick it up. Probably worth a holiday season blind buy. It would probably be $15 now and on sale if it came out when it was supposed to...but you've got to hand it to the studios. Very smart marketing because no one really buys an X-mas movies on St. Patty's Day lol.
