Default Can anyone tell me how the N64 and Super Nintento would look on a 60" tv?

I want to rebuy those consoles and build up the collection I used to have. Just wondering how they would look on my 60" or would it be better to buy a smaller tv for those?

The N64 looks ok on my tv just with black bars on both sides.

I guess I'll just have to try it out. It worse comes to worse. I'll just buy another tv for my back room and throw everything in there.

The problem with hooking up older consoles is that, unless you spend a lot of money, you're going to be stuck with a blurry composite signal that will most likely be interpreted incorrectly by the TV, leading to input lag and artifacts. If you want these systems to look good, you're going to want to use an upscaler like the Framemeister. There are N64 mods that add HDMI functionality, and some can even reverse some of the anti-aliasing smear that the system uses. I'd recommend My Life in Gaming's videos on the SNES and N64, since they're really comprehensive when it comes to the different options you have.

I was going to post the same thing but decided not to because these threads always turn into "that's too expensive, it'll look fine without it."

In addition to what Nega already said, if you don't want to mod or use an upscaler your best best is to find a smaller tube tv.

It will look awful on a 60" flat panel. Go with an old 27" CRT and buy the original console and games......its the only way to go....

If you can find a NES classic you can add games to the system and has HDMI built in. Quality Nintendo hardware and controllers. Probably the best bang for the buck cost-wise.

The SNES classic will be released this fall and may have the same architecture where you may be able to add games on that system as well.

Get a few Wii pro controllers and you can play most games from Gameboy to N64

Is emulation a no no topic on this forum? As i'm not sure i'm not saying to do it, but emulation allows n64 games to be played at much higher resolutions which helps de-age it a little. It still will look old but will at least be as sharp and defined as the artwork/geometry allows.

The retro pi is a great and affordable option i'd recommend well above anything like the nes classic.
