Default Issues with Sony BDP S3700 AND HDMI splitters

Been having this problem lately. I picked up a stand alone player to spear the wear and tear of my PS3 and using one of those pigtail switchers, my video keeps dropping in and out repeatedly. I tried switching around cables and just picked up another splitter from Wally's in hopes this would address my problem. I'm not even getting a picture through that.

It seems like my player doesn't want to get along with anything other then a slot all to itself. I hate to think of the idea that I'm going to be wearing out the tv's plug now.

How about telling us why your using a switcher in the first place. It also wouldn't hurt if you gave us a list of all associated gear in the system.

LG LN5300
Sony BDP S3700 Blu-Ray
Plus those two switchers I mentioned.

Issue is I have a number of systems (PS3, 360, scalers, transcoders, etc) and only two hdmi inputs to the set. Input 2 is strictly for the pc since using it on the switcher will cause some error on changing inputs (i.e. display detection similar to unplugging/replugging hdmi). Input 1 used to be for all my game hookups, but since the player disagrees with it, I have to keep changing it on the panel itself. I'd use the PS3, but I'd rather it have a good life span.

Edit: Chalk up another one for me being stupid. The new one I bought required a usb powered connection to make it work and I accidentally threw the package away with the cable still in it somewhere. I don't think I'll be needing anything else on this thread, but thanks anyway.

I use a switcher because I think it is easier changing the input on it than changing the input on the receiver (and perhaps it's easier on the receiver although I don't know if that's true). So I just use one receiver input.

But HDMI switchers can be notoriously unreliable, from what I have read. Also, IIRC, they just will not work with some products.

I have this one:

https://kinivo.com/product/501bn-5-p...d-hdmi-switch/

I bought it after a great deal of research and it has worked flawlessly for about two years now. I did have a different switcher before this one that died after about 3-4 years.

I wish I could have seen that one earlier as I'd have liked the remote for it.

Well, my Kinovo switcher died. It stopped passing audio.

I just got another, this AGPtEK Slim 4K HDMI Switch 5 Port 5x1:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

What I like is that it seems to cover the latest technology (some of which I don't have yet like 4K) so it's a start at future proofing. Also it's the first switcher I've had that seems to have some weight and solidity. Even the remote seems a little more solid although it's still a little on the flimsy side as all switcher remotes seem to be.

I received it yesterday and set it up and everything is going flawlessly.

Anyway, I still know HDMI switchers tend to be unreliable so I'm just hoping this one will actually last more than a few years.

So voltz, did you ever solve your problem?

Edit: I almost forgot. The new switcher does not do any automatic switching. I like this because I don't like the switcher to switch just because I turn another component on. I may want to get the new component, say a blu-ray player, ready to go with a movie or to stream Netflix or Hulu while I finish watching a TV show. Now it won't change until I press the button on the remote. Also, some people have complained that their automatic switcher sometimes switches, presumably because it thinks a component has been turned on when it hasn't been, although that never happened to me.

I may have to get this. I want something like that with a remote, and that is well made and reliable.

At one point I was using a small automatic switcher, but had the problems where it would switch when I didn't want it to and was no reliable at all once that started (it was okay at first).

While this is a bit more than I would prefer to pay for a switcher, I'd rather pay more for quality than get something else that won't work well again.

Yes, I will pay more for quality. While I can't be sure this one will work better or longer (although just not having automatic switching is already one thing that is better), I have a better feeling about it because it just seems like considerably better quality than the first two I've had. It weighs more than twice as much as the Kinovo (and both are 5x1) and I hope that is because it is built better.

Time will tell.

"Be careful if you try a bluray cleaner, the laser is much more sensitive than the ones on DVDs, I've heard they tend to do more harm to bluray players than help. I would double check to make sure your firmware is up to date. What model player are you using? How long have you had it?"

This freezing problem started recently.
Sony BOP-S3200. I've had it 2-3 years. Does that mean anything?

And can the problem be in HDCP protocols? Some splitters do not support them.
