Can anyone in New Zealand confirm that the Steelbook and Triple Play versions are at JB Hi-Fi this week? So far they are not showing up on their website, so at this stage they might be Australian exclusives.. Also with the Avengers being a Disney distributed title, it will be interesting to know which version at all we will get, as quite often the case with Disney titles, we get the Single Disc editions.

I'll get the US release. Apparently this is missing a few special features like the commentary track and the Assembling the Ultimate Team featurette

Do Disney region lock anymore? Because I think I'll wait for the US release.

Although the extras sound good, it doesn't really bother me as I never really watch extras anyway and am all about the film as long as the PQ and AQ are good. Will be getting this tomorrow when hopefully it will be on NZ shelves.

Damn, that's disappointing. Was looking forward to the commentary with Joss.

Does anyone here actually release titles early? I've never wanted to buy something on release day so I'm not sure if anyone would.

Doesn't matter though, I won't be buying this without the commentary so buying locally is off the table. I'm another one hoping Disney doesn't region lock this, but from what I can see they release both locked and region free discs so we'll just have to wait and see. Fingers crossed.

I remember a couple of years back JB NZ released Terminator: Salvation a few days earlier than release datet and have noticed they release smaller titles before tehir release date like Leon: The Professional

Awesome, so I'm not screwed. No ugly giant ratings sticker is another bonus.

Do we know if this is the case with the Avengers as I got a different response when I queried Amazon about it (See below copy from email from Amazon Support)?

'I can see from your e-mail that you're interested in purchasing "Marvel's The Avengers (Four-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy + Digital Music Download)" and would like to know which region it is for. I looked it up and found that the DVD and Blu-rays for this set are for Region 1'

Several of the JB Hi Fi stores in my area in Perth (namely Joondalup, Whitfords City and Osborne Park) generally put up new releases on the Monday of the release week, rather than their actual release date.

I got a call from my Mum, who is in Wellington at the moment, and she said Whitcoulls, of all places, had the Steelbook (?), but some employee wouldn't sell it to her because it gets released tomorrow.

I've asked her to check the price tomorrow, seeing as Whitcoulls is a 'full retail' price store.

Disney have done it again?!?!?!?!?!?!

If the distribution stayed with Paramount, the UK, American and Australian copies would all be the same in terms of content. Just like the other movies in the Avengers-universe.

I agree as well. Just watched it and very inconsistent picture. What I could see was a fair amount of dnr applied to specific shots. Especially the ones with live cast being filmed. ie: non cgi shots.

I don't know what you guys are going on about. I don't know if I was looking at the same disc, however The Avengers is awesome on blu. Lack of detail???? Yeah right. I could count the weave on their clothes. There was no edge enhancement, No compression. Plenty of detail. Good black levels and Gamma. Contrast was not over blown. It wasn't a 10 but it wasn't very far off. Also I have a pretty god damm good setup to see any issues.

Just rung a JB which was out of stock of the Steelbook but they are a small store, guy checked other stores, appears plenty of stores have stock still.
I have one on hold now, $46.98.
Not sure whether to get this or go with the Big W version with comic book...

I have the Briefcase version on order from Amazon but that is looking like it will be cancelled.

I bought 2 copies of the steelbook from the Osborne Park store (WA). I literally picked them up as they were putting everything on the shelves. The lady told me the store had only received 13 of them, and after I was done there'd be 11 left. Looks like it was an extremely limited run - the website even removed the listing before the release date.
