I thought it would be a good idea to ask you all what 4K discs sound worse than their bluray counterparts. This could be from Disney's Atmousing, too much revisionism, or other factors

![]() The DTS-HD MA tracks on their day-and-date releases are similarly mastered at a low volume, but there isn't a "lol clever" name for it like "Atmoused." Hellboy 2 and Pirates of the Caribbean: DMTNT both have objectively better DTS-HD MA tracks than their UHD counterparts, at least in the LFE department. Measurements are posted on AVS. The Oblivion Atmos track has more headroom and almost no clipping. A lot of people prefer the brickwalled DTS track because it gives them harder LFE hits. The Incredibles Atmos track is likewise an improvement, but there are a handful of split-second bass hits that are more forceful on the DTS. Disney gives you the option of either track on the UHD. |

The Atmos remix is very aggressive in the use of heights and I think the music effects have been turned up in relation to dialog. I enjoyed it but many do not and it reportedly does not downmix well to non-atmos setups.

Hellboy 2: UHD vs. BD
Notice the lower average volume of the LFE channel in the DTS:X track, as well as the steep dropoff below 30 Hz. Pirates of the Caribbean - DMTNT: UHD (dotted line < 30 Hz indicates non-boosted frequencies) vs. BD Significant differences in both peak and average LFE between Atmos (lower) and DTS-HD MA (higher). |

The mono track included on the disc is simply a downmix of the 7.1 (maybe the 5.1? not sure) track, rather than the original mono audio. It was a mistake of a track that was included on the 30th anniversary BD, then corrected for the Shout! Factory box set, then included again (presumably by mistake) on the UHD.
