HDD2 Starts Filming in May

Quote:
Breakout star Jessica Rothe even detailed early sequel plans earlier this year, relaying Landon’s Back to the Future-esque approach to a potential follow-up.

“The sequel, the way he described it to me, elevates the movie from being a horror movie – and I wouldn’t even say it’s just a horror movie because it’s a horror, comedy, rom-com drama – into a Back to the Future type of genre film where the sequel joins us right from where we left off, it explains a lot of things in the first one that didn’t get explained, and it elevates everything,” Rothe told Collider.

She continued, “I was really pleased to know that we weren’t just gonna be pushing all the buttons that people loved the first time, over and over again, ‘cause I think that gets old. I’m really excited to see if it comes to fruition and, if it does, what the final product looks like. I hope we get to do it! I had a ball!”

While Happy Death Day 2 hasn’t been officially announced, Geek Vibes Nation spotted that the sequel is listed in this week’s Production Weekly roundup. They tweeted, “It looks like the sequel to #HappyDeathDay will begin filming May 14 in New Orleans.”

The working title, according to Production Weekly, is "FOE PAW“. The listing notes that Christopher Landon will be returning to both write and direct. Jason Blum produces.

Since these Blumhouse movies only film for 3-4 weeks, I wonder if they can have it out by THIS Halloween?

The first one was surprisingly great, so Jessica Rothe returning in a sequel should be awesome!

I just saw the first one the other day and enjoyed it, so I'd be okay with a sequel. I don't really know what they would do for a sequel though, seeing how the first one ended.

But that's just it though, we don't need an explanation. In the context of the film, you just go with it, without needing it to be spelled out as to why she's repeating the same day. It's just like with Groundhog's Day. There was never an explanation as to why Phil's day is repeated, but It's not needed. As the movie goes along, you just go with the concept.

Same with The Final Girls. No explanation needed. Some phenomenon caused it to happen and you just go with it. It's a fantasy.

First let me say that I really enjoyed the first film, found it wickedly entertaining, and think that Rothe may be my favorite new actress in a long time (I know this wasn't her first work; but she was new to me). So, I'm very happy that there seems like there will be a sequel.

That being said, I sort of loved the way the first one just kind of ended. I'm really not sure it needs to be "elevated" in the first place. But obviously it was successful, relatively, so this was clearly likely to happen. And more Jessica is a good thing. So I'm not complaining.

Talking about The Final Girls, I thought that film suffered from not being a 18. I was thinking the same about HDD but it turned out decent. The stubborn side of me wanted to dislike it for that but I have to admit I enjoyed it.
