Well, since HBO is airing an adaptation of the first book in this series in April, I thought I would create a thread to discuss the books:

A Game of Thrones
A Clash of Kings
A Storm of Swords
A Feast for Crows

You may want to take those last 3 off as they're not even out yet and likely will never be at the current rate GRRM is going, add in his recent poor health and it seems like we'll see a repeat of WoT.
I used to love these books but the amount of time between, the fact that he puts a ton of time into other projects that have a much narrower fan base and that I actually think he'll die before we see the end of it makes me not really care anymore. Sure, I'll watch the series and I'll pick the next book up if it ever comes out (going on 6 years since the last one) but seeing as he had the bulk of it written and it's still taken him this long I'll not hold my breath for it.
I can't even stand to read his blog anymore.
I understand that these things take time and such but it's a joke to think people's interest can be held for this long between novels, good story or not, I just don't care anymore.

Well I never was all that passionate about this series so I think I'll be ok. They're good books, great at times, but 6 years is a joke. There are plenty of other good books out there to be read by authors who have something called a work ethic. Now, I don't know GRRM personally but all signs point to him being a bit of a lazy ass, just read the things he does with his time other than write the books that got him where he is.

Still, I'm not his boss and none of us can presume to tell him when his creation is good enough for publication. But we can make our displeasure known, and I have, frequently. He doesn't even respond to my comments at his blog anymore. Apparently I ask too many questions that he doesn't like. Boohoo George, it's called fame.

I was VERY disappointed in Feast for Crows. Loved all the others.

Storm of Swords is one of my favorite books ever.

I'm looking forward to it too, but what if it is a success? They can only do so much, but can't finish the whole story since GRRM can't either!

I love the look of the HBO series, surely has potential. I share the same worries that it will eclipse the books and we'll end up waiting years in between seasons. The actors will all age and move on and they'lll be forced to recast all the key parts... it just sounds like a huge gamble for HBO, most expensive series they've ever produced.

Some Amazon employee in Germany sent out 180 copies of A Dance with Dragons early. Martin and his publisher are furious...understandably. He has threatened to "mount his head on a spike" ouch

George RR Martin threatens to decapitate spoiler

Is that the largest in the series? I might have to forget re-reading a feast for crows and instead begin working out.

Dunno...I want to watch the rest of the HBO series before reading the books. The shock value so far has been well worth it. Sounds like a behemoth though

I have a question about A Clash of Kings.

[Show spoiler]Why did Theon Greyjoy pretend to kill Bran and Rickon? He knew putting their heads on Winterfell would enrage the people living in and around Winterfell. So why would he kill two other boys and tell everyone that he killed Bran and Rickon?

Wow, 6 years between books?!? I kinda wanted to read this, since I heard it was like the English history of the Wars of the Roses meets Lord of the Rings, but not if I have to wait a decade or two for the series to be complete, assuming the author lives that long. Maybe I'll try waiting to see if he ever finishes it...and read it when I'm middle-aged.
