Im excited. i finally pulled the trigger today and purchased the 65 lg oled e series. the price was right and i feel good about the ability to watch 4k finally. This will be paired with the Oppo203 and an AppleTv 4k box. This will replace my 50 Pioneer 151fd which will move to my bedroom as its still working great. We just wanted to go larger, benefit from 4k and not step down in pq from our beloved kuro. Just wanted to share my excitement with the community

Thanks. i have been prepping for the tv upgrade since purchasing the oppo. i have about 20 titles so far. im sure that will rise though as more of my favorite catalog titles get worthy 4k releases. im certain to drive myself nuts with the setting and calibration though, i still fiddle with my plasma every few movies ...

Well, i am sad to report that no matter what settings i tweaked and what options i turned off i could not get over the SOE on the OLED, its going to have to go back. And for the time being i will be stuck with my Kuro. Its possible the TV was too big, im about 8 feet and it was 65" but watching the 4k content made me dizzy and watching the 1080P stuff seemed to look worse than on my old plasma. Im bummed as i was really looking forward to this tv and the picture on glass on the E series was beautifully designed.

8' is the right viewing distance for a 65" screen.
If you want to get rid of the SOE follow these instructions: - Reset your TV to the factory defaults - Check for firmware updates and run if needed - Go to the user menu (by pressing the round "Gear" button the the LG TV remote) and select "Picture Mode" ~ Scroll to you find "Technicolor Expert" and press "select" Press the back button and you have now fixed the panel to create images without the fake inserting of frames that create the SOE. You have also set the TV to be the most accurate in every element of picture performance. Let us know how this works with your C7 and please follow the above instructions exactly as they are listed. |

You went from one of the best performing plasma's to what is in my opinion the best performing ways to view TV We went from PRO-1150HD Elite back in the day, to many LCDs (sharp with viper drive 1080p still working, Westinghouse died after 4 years from 2006, Samsung UN46C6300, UNC9000, to the 65'' HU8500/ 75'' HU version to finally now a 4k OLED set and my first ever LG purchase. I was a huge samsung fanboy but what tv is the best is the best. And the LG crushes the best offerings samsung has. LG OLED reminds me of what Pioneer did to everyone back in those glory days, where NOTHING could touch it for years and years and even then only after about 4-6 years were LEDs/LCDs finally competitive. I think we had one plasma from pani in 2009/10 that was finally we couldn't tell a difference better the Kuro and it. But for years it destroyed the competition You made the right call with LG ![]() |

picture modes :: if it is in the default 'APS' :: 'guaranteed' it will look 'terrible', no matter what you do with settings otherwise
additionally :: try the different picture modes (especially :: Cinema :: Technicolor :: ISF) and see what 'you think' - 'what you see' - trust yourself and your perceptions additionally :: carefully turn off 'most' processing (checking performance differences as you do each) selectively, making your choices accordingly in my experience, it did take a few days to 'get to' an acceptable picture quality, 'as you see it' and :: 'if it's too far (picture settings) from ideal, it will be 'quite unsatisfactory' :: in my experience, while the picture quality (when adjusted) is quite remarkable, when the settings are off, the picture quality is 'substantially poor', which is why for many years now, my perspective is that the 'better the display' the more important/significant are the picture adjustments/calibration, especially in an era of UHD in closing, i delayed (entirely disinterested) in acquiring an OLED, as in retail (the first point of involvement with a display), they 'never looked acceptable' in my experience at 'many stores' :: finally, i decided/realized that the only way to 'see' if OLED had any 'merits' was to purchase one and evaluate it at home, which eventually i did :: i am not an OLED fanatic by any measure, but the picture quality that i experience daily, is beyond my expectations, and it's still not adjusted to my complete satisfaction (i have an LG OLED55C7P @ 11' - which is 'too big' for me, but i tolerate it - were this OLED available in smaller sizes, i would downsize to as low as 43" - please keep in mind that viewing distance is a personal subjective choice, exactly the same as choosing your seat in a movie theater, think front row and back row and any other distance that is preferred - screen size is also a 'personal preference' regardless available references otherwise) Quote:

Thanks everyone for all the replies. This 65 is going back at this point because it really just looks too big for us. I think a 55 will be the sweet spot for me even though I understand it will lose the enhanced resolution at that distance. I turned off all processing extras and used the settings I found on rtings and avsforum still we could only be satisfied about half the time. For me to get a new display I'm gonna need to be happy 100 of the time. Maybe the 2018 models will have something for me.

One thing I did experience with mine is that out of the box it was not perfect. I mean throwing a 4k HDR disk on right away showed how much better the picture was than my Samsung Hu8 series, but for gaming, various ways I watch shows both streaming and non streaming it really did require more tweaking than I think I've had to do dating back to my Sharp LC-32GP1U from 2007 lmao that required tons of tweaking with how bright the contrast was on blacks lol. |

we are now considering the 55e7 model. we are hoping with the smaller size the soe wont be so obnoxious. we bought a sony 55 930 today and it was vastly inferior to my 9 year old plasma so it went right back. i was relly sold on the oled and the e series is so slick looking design wise. i just wonder if soe isnt inherent in the hdr technology. i cannot stomach 3d so if the soe is a part of the hrd im stuck in the past tech for now..
