Can someone tell me... which version of A CHINESE GHOST STORY TRILOGY is the best as it pertains to video quality AND sound? For DVD? Side by side comparisons, anyone...?
I own the IVL DVD version from 2005 and the picture quality is noisy and grainy. But it is many steps ahead of the old Mega Star DVD that was released in 1998. |

I think I read somewhere that the German releases were, but they're not English-friendly. Eureka will probably release a remastered trilogy sometime soon, though. That's the hope at least.

Never heard of Eureka. How are their DVDs? Great picture? Original logos? Original sound?
There’s a Korean Blu Ray set that looks great, but I don’t have a Blu Ray player. Also, there’s some new 2019 remasters from Kam & Robson... |

Eureka is a British label known for the high quality of their releases. They've released top-notch remastered blu-ray versions of Iron Monkey, the Once Upon A Time in China, trilogy, Zu Warriors from the Magic Mountain and Mr. Vampire in the past year.

I'm assuming they are carbon copies of the K&R blu-rays since it was issued around the same time. They are probably better than the IVL dvd set since I cant imagine those holding up by todays standards.

So the K&R Blu rays/DVDs are the best versions standing today in terms of picture quality? If so, I’ll get it. Again, I only have DVD. No Blu Ray player. There’s a Korean Version from Nova Media that has an excellent cover, but nobody has it. |

Ok. The 2005 IVL/Fortune Star DVD has extremely noisy grainy video transfer. Now I’m just hoping the Kam & Ronson DVD trilogy is a much better and touched up transfer. Then, there’s 2019 reprints of the same versions that were released last year.
I used to own the A BETTER TOMORROW trilogy from IVL/Fortune Star and it had seriously bad picture quality and serious sync issues within its original 2.0 mono track. And I swore I’d never buy anything else from IVL ever. So I think I’ll just get the K&M versions of ACGS via Play-Asia this week. |

If the K&R DVDs look like the Blu-rays, then they are not the best. The Blu-rays look dull and colorless.
I wanted to use this thread and ask if anyone has the original mono tracks of all three films. Or do you know, if they are still available somewhere? I want to make remuxes with the video from the German Blu-rays. |
