Default Starting new threads in the main section?

I wanted to start a new thread in the German movie section to ask a question about a specific movie, but the site said I didn't have permission since I'm a newbie. How long do you have to be here/how many posts do you need before you're allowed to do this?

Or, does anyone know if there's a specific thread I could go to to ask questions about foreign movies? Most of them seem to be notices of sales and upcoming titles.

Give it a few more posts and you'll be able to start your own thread.

Default SO, What is a FEW more posts?

Even though after 2 months I am just getting permission to post at all, and even though it says at the bottom of the page I have permission to start new threads, and I am continually seeing all these previous posts being answered with 'after a few posts you will be allowed to start a thread', I am wondering what constitutes a few posts - and if the permission comes automatically after that magic FEW, or if you have to request permission again.

Additionally I am wondering why it is so difficult for get permission here on this site to start posting to the forum. Two months waiting for permission seems a bit lengthy, and being edged into it over time with levels of permission seems a bit 'unfriendly'; why is this site so difficult to become accepted by? The criteria and the welcoming seem all so unfriendly. Is there some particular sort of individual you are trying to keep at bay?

I myself am a person with more than a few years of life behind me, less ahead of me, who enjoys trying to keep of with technology. I saw many of these movies now appearing in blu-ray when they were originally released in the theater before many of the people on this site were born. I still LOVE movies, love my DVDs, and now adore my blu-rays. I like to, as I said, keep up with technology, and this seems a good place to learn, but you folks sure do make it difficult to ask a question and get any help.

So again, what is a 'few' and why does it take a 'few'?

I believe you need ten posts first before you can start a thread, someone will correct me if I am wrong...it's a spam deterrent.

Hello justalady21

You have 4 posts at this point. Make a couple more & you should be good.

The developers have set certain things applying to New Members to prevent spam & it works vary well You just need to get over that hump so to speak

If you want just respond to my post & then I will respond back so you can respond again

Default Thank for your reply....

Brent.

Thank you for your time and your informative response.

This will I guess count as one more. Just let me know if when I reach THE number, I need to request specific permission or if it comes automatically when the number is reached and I will try to take it from there and move on without being a pest. LOL.

Thanks again!

Let me try to answer this in as friendly a manner as I can muster.

I'm not sure of the circumstances surrounding the issues you were having, but that seems to be resolved now. You should be able to freely post at any time.

The admins have instituted a policy of 10 posts before a new member can create a thread. This is purely a spam preventative measure, and it works well. I (we) realize this can be frustrating for new members, but it is what it is and its unlikely to change. Just make a few more posts and you'll be on your way.

I can assure you that despite these initial inconveniences, this site is without a doubt the most friendly and accommodating page on the web. I am confident you will share this sentiment with me in no time at all.

Thank you for joining us and we hope you truly do enjoy your time here!

Default Thank you...

John, Thank you for your time, your friendly response, and your detailed explanation. Appreciate it.

I use the site for information on individual Blu-ray releases very often and enjoy it a great deal.

I will get over this pesky carping soon, I promise.

Thanks again!

Aaaah!! So 10's the magic number? I asked about this on the new member thread but I guess this is the most appropiate topic. Guess I have to start posting, hehehe. I have a nagging audio issue and I'd really like to have some help with it. I'll guess I'll do some thread hunting where I can contribute.
