Default Why are some of the prices for these “movie deals” so high?

Where is everyone buying physical versions of their movies now?

Prices are higher now that Best Buy is no longer selling movies. It looks like this Black Friday is going to be a bust as well. I mostly rely on Target/Amazon’s buy 2 get 1 free sales and Gruv these days.

Also, I believe that when a movie enters this website’s system, it shows up on the deals page with the first price triggering a “lowest price” alert, even though the price might be quite high.

I have to laugh when B&N has a Criterion or Arrow sale, so Amazon lowers their prices to be competitive......and people get the disks from Amazon.

Do people understand that once B&N has gone bye-bye, no more Amazon matching their sale prices?

I have used Wal-Mart since Best Buy stopped selling discs and have been happy in the majority. I refuse to use DeepDiscount, Amazon, or Target for various reasons.

I preach that for all the B&N sales. I only broke down and bought Man From Uncle from Amazon because B&N kept giving me the runaround during the last sale.

FWIW (and I don't know your reasons for sure)

Deep Discount seems to have improved their game; my last 2 orders shipped immediately and were boxed and mint. With their 15% off coupons they do have some of the cheapest prices.

Target also added cardboard backing in the sticky cardboard envelope with my Ring steelbook and it arrived undamaged. They've also shipped all of my recent B2G1 preorders timely.

Even Amazon sent my last disc in a box!

Surely anecdotal but it does seem like the big guns are upping their game. Returns finally affecting the bottom line?

All that said I am not a corporate shill. Probably 75% of my orders are direct from labels and boutique sellers. But one of the reasons I have a huge collection is I definitely pursue bargains.

I'm also not shy about using Half Price clearance and recently got the Maleficent sequel UHD Target exclusive for $3. In fact half of my Disney comes from there at $2 or $3.

The $120 one? That's a exclusive edition that comes with a bar of soap and some other stuff.

I'm buying BD and 4K at lower prices than a few years ago. Make regular use of 20% sign up discounts at Gruv, 20%-25% vouchers off at moviesunlimited, 20% codes at HMV here in the UK.

People buy from amazon cause B&N (and target) does not ship outside of the usa and amazon usa does, plus I imagine the local B&N does not have much stock.
Also sometimes B&N sales and Target B2G1 sales happen at the same time and amazon sometimes has both the sales going on BD titles.

Gimmick buyers get very angry when its even vaguely implied (echoing the buyer's family, friends and co-workers) what they paying big bucks on is just junk.

I assume the bar is some kind of joke. Wash yourself clean after watching this trash or is it some inside thing from the third movie?

All of a LE is a gimmick, thats the point of the higher pricing then the standard release. Does not matter if does not include a plush toy or does not glow-in-the-dark.

Might as well come with a chainsaw at that price.

This was the year I discovered that the thrift stores in my area (Goodwill, Salvation Army, and ReStore) have an seemingly endless stock of movie treasures (if you hit them up consistently).

I've found 4k, Steelbooks, Criterion titles, and new/sealed blus and DVDs. At $.99/each (except for multi-disc sets), it'll be rare for me to buy from a company now. It really re-ignited the thrill of the hunt for me.

Also, be sure to hit up thrift stores after Christmas when people donate gifts they don't want.
