I've seen relatively few short films compared to feature-length films, so there isn't as much competition yet for me for favorite short films. However, I'm confident that La Jetee (1962) will remain among my favorites. I've only seen Night and Fog (1956) once but am confident that it will also hold up very well for me upon subsequent viewings.

Probs an obvious choice, but I love Un Chien Andalou.

Be aware that some of these may be graphic.

Dunno where part 1 of this one is:

Plenty of others I doubt can be found on YT, like a bunch of Pixar, Disney, and Animatrix shorts, more Don Hertzfeldt cartoons. Some other live-action shorts I love include The Red Balloon, Treevenge, Tub, The Big Shave, An Occurence At Owl Creek Bridge, Forklift Driver Klaus, Kung Fury, and several more.

I wish one of Masaaki Yuasa's earliest animations, Cat Soup (2001), came to BD.

La Cabina (1972) - a short spanish film about a man who becomes trapped in a telephone box. Once seen, never forgotten.

12:01 PM (1991) - a great time loop short film.

The Grandmother (1970) - great early David Lynch weirdness.

I'll See You in My Dreams (2003)
The Dumb Waiter (1979)
Panic (1978)

I go by the AAMPAS rule that a short film is 40 minutes or less:

"The Red Balloon" (1956)

"To Fly!" (1976)

Thanks for sharing that. I had only recently heard about it and been meaning to look into it more. This turned out to be gorgeous!
