Been watching them all today and I think the transfer looks great...a lot of bright colors and sharpness....I’ve noticed a difference...I’d say for the price it’s definitely worth the upgrade...I sold off my old copies and then sold the Digital codes $6 each so I only really paid like $10-$11 bucks for them

I'll forever remember this "movie" as the one that took the box office from Mad Max: Fury Road. I hate that more people went to see this on opening weekend than George Miller's masterpiece. I can't distance this movie from that.

If any of y'all have read my thoughts on Pitch Perfect then the sequel's UHD has some obvious similarities but also a few differences. It's worth stating that the regular BD is again very good indeed and so there's a negligable difference in the spatial detail between the two (not even on those net shirts that ze Germans are wearing), with the UHD looking a fraction smoother owing to the de-noising pass. And, as before, the HDR grade pulls down a very limited amount of extra range and it's the actual HDR brightness itself that makes most of the difference there. Still looks beautifully vibrant for the most part, although some brighter highlights veer into slight posterisation as there's nothing left to give in terms of the dynamic range.
Like its predecessor, the UHD's colour has much rosier skin tones but this time the primaries and secondaries seem a shade less intense vs the BD. It's not a bad effect however as the spangly golden tracksuits of the Bellas at the blind convention actually look golden on the UHD rather than a straight-up yellow, and during the more heavily saturated moments the BD starts to clip quite badly, reds in particular. Photo example here, look at the audience members in the front row! [Show spoiler] I gushed about how the black levels of the first film don't change dramatically from SDR to HDR and I should've kept my mouth shut because this time the black levels have been raised for the UHD and so doesn't look *quite* as contrasty as PP1 does. It also causes some oddities to show up, like the start of chapter 8 when the Bellas visit the mansion. I can clearly see the power window used to darken the central portion of the image in the DI while the side portions with the lamps now look significantly brighter with a visible boundary between the two areas, whereas the denser BD has a much smoother transition between the lighter and darker parts of the image. There are some decent enough blacks in other scenes, but that bit caught my eye. Could always pull the black level down by a notch or two when watching it again however. Still a very nice little disc if you've got the HDR to show it off, it's not quite as polished as the first film's UHD however. Last edited by Geoff D; 10-08-2018 at 12:26 AM. |

Lol true, not exactly a hotbed of activity. I definitely need to revisit since I watched all 3 on my old VIZIO so I’m sure I’ll pick up on things that I missed. If I remember HDR on 3 looked very good. It’s hard to separate them since we watched all 3 back to back. Universal handles new releases exceptionally well.
