Warner Bros Detective Pikachu (2019)

The people behind Pokemon have decided they want a live-action movie — and three of the most powerful studios on the planet are currently battling to be the one who gets to make it happen.

A top-secret auction for film rights to the Pokemon franchise is nearing completion with Thomas Tull’s Legendary Entertainment attempting to nudge aside Warner Bros., which has pursued the property aggressively, according to sources. Sony also is said to be very interested.

It should go to Warner since it arrived on Kids WB and is currently on Cartoon Network.

Sony is desperate for anything right now.

Hopefully Sony doesn't land this, they will ruin it.

Haven't watched Pokemon since 7th grade, but a live action film done right could be a huge hit for Pokemon fans and non-fans alike.

I'll be shocked if this happens. That'll mean Nintendo is finally willing to look at movies again as a possibility. Though it could also be a case of Nintendo being overruled by Game Freak and Creatures.

I'm ready for this. Better be dark and gritty, with realistic backstories for all characters.

I would like if they can do something similar to pokemon origins that would be cool.

I've been wanting this for so long, and I got over Pokemon years ago. Hope WB gets it.

Haven't watched Pokemon since elementary, but I'd definitely check out a live action.

I once had this idea for a live action Pokemon movie called "Pokemon Challenger", in which a teenage girl is forced to take on a rival in a Winner Takes All battle to decide the fate of who takes over the Gym Leader role of a local Gym, when her older sister, who is the current gym leader, is diagnosed with a terminal illness and has months to live.

Adam Sandler as Ash Ketchum and Danny DeVito as Pikachu. That would be sweet.

On a more serious note as a Pokémon fan I'd rather not see this happen. If this were to happen years ago I'd probably be excited but today - call me cynical, but I totally fail to see how this can turn out to be good.

I'd want WB to obtain the rights because they used to own the rights to the first three movies. Seeing the Sony logo or the Legendary one wouldn't feel right at all.

I hope this lands at Legendary...They love monster movies over there. It's the perfect home for this. I want this to happen so badly...

If the intro to Man Of Steel is anything to go by, then they could definitely pull this off.

Who would play Ash though?

This has the POTENTIAL to be awesome.

All it needs is a script that is reasonably smart and with characters you can connect with, and a good balance between the fantasy of Pokemon and the weighty realism that live action goes well with (I don't mean dark and gritty, I just mean have a certain visceral gravitas to it).

Mad isn't it, i thought i'd never think that, but Sony has been pumping out utter trash recently and i don't trust them with any franchise at the moment!

Despite Nintendo's ownership, the Pokemon Company actually has a pretty tight grip on the creative and financial control of the IP, so the strategy wouldn't really reflect Nintendo as a whole.
