Default Future Blu-ray case....still blue?

When HD DVD has gone away completely, I don't think the color of the BD case has to be still blue. I would prefer different colors for each title depending on artistc reason or theme of the title. It can be black, white, yellow, 100% transparent, even red (the color of memory? ), etc. Whatever color of the case is, blu-ray is always blu anyway. What do you guys think?

I think the Blue case is great and it should stay as is.

I like them as they are. As far as a "theme" goes, well, Blu-ray cases are blue! They only thing I would change would be to make them a bit more rigid, kinda like PS3 cases.

It already happened. Just look at Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

I think we will start to see multi-coloured Blu-ray cases once HD DVD disappears.

It wouldn't matter to me either way. I'm not particular about the color of the case.

It's called BLU-ray, not multicolored-ray. It should always be blu!

If they ever change the color of Blu cases, it will be driven by the over all design of the movie cover, which is usually based on the movie poster. for example, black case for Batman Begins, yellow for Little Miss Sunshine, green for Matrix, etc.

CE3 was a simple "digipack"
And why should the industry abandon an established CI standard?
It's Blu(e)-Ray and would otherwiese suggest something else
So, we will see "special" packaging like Steelbooks, Digipacks but i think no studio will ship its discs in non-standard cases.

I wouldn't have any issues with it as long they don't increase the height of it because I have customized shelves.

I like the blue cases, as well. I hope they continue using them in the future, regardless of competition.

I like the fact that they lend a uniform appearance (like a nice library collection) on the shelf.

How about making the case shorter and just omitting that useless 1cm strip of blue plastic at the top? The cover art tells the story.

As others have said here there will eventually be multi-colored BD cases. Once Blu-ray is more established as a format in the general public's mind they can mess with the standard packaging more and more. I do think that most releases will try to avoid a red case. This is still 2-3 years away though.

+1 that the case should remain blue IF it has a case. If it's a Sp. Ed. like Close Encounters then do whatever but like a lot of others are saying - and I agree with 100% - is that the blue case differentiates it from a standard DVD.

Now that the HD DVD war is over and people are going to start buying Blu, I would hate to see a bunch of Blu movies coming out with a bunch of different colors cuz people might start thinking that ANOTHER new format is out.

The 'general public' are easily confused and the multiple colors might be a huge dis-service to Blu ray.

Now I would say that if you wanted to, go into business making cases of all different colors and sell the empty cases for those that want to coordinate with themes, groupings or however they would want to do it. Make some $$ while still getting what you want.
