Default How would you tweak your favorite films to make them better?

Going off the "Perfect films" thread, what perfect films, or films you consider great could use a minor tweaks or two to become even better?

For example:

Terminator 2: love the movie, love Robert Patrick, but I would have loved to see Michael Beihn in that role.

Battle Royale: needs to be longer in the middle/more like the book. Every character had a backstory, but in the movie they barely had a name.

Dawn Of The Dead 78: It has some pacing issues, and needs to tone down the "sillyness" towards the end.

Ransom: Gary Sinise is excellent in the role but I would love to see how it would've turned out had Alec Baldwin done it instead as originally intended by Ron Howard.

The Godfather Part II: I love Michael V. Gazzo and the Frank Pentageli character but I would love to see how it would've turned out had Richard S. Castello returned as Clemenza as it would've added even more to the parallel timeline stories.

Aliens: I love Michael Biehn and he killed it as Hicks but I would love to see how it would've turned out had James Remar been able to finish filming as Hicks.

Trespass (1992): I love William Sadler and think he's great in the film but I would love to see how it would've turned out had Brad Pitt done the role as originally intended.

.
I like this, makes the movie more of thriller, with the Biehn terminator pretending he is the protector. Yet could they keep that out of the trailer?

I wouldn't. Any "imperfections" only serve to enhance the appeal.

Mad Max: Fury Road: Have Mel Gibson star

Inglourious Basterds: Have Adam Sandler play Donny Donowitz

The Mist: Make the sequence from when
[Show spoiler]they leave the supermarket to when the vehicle runs out of gas
a bit longer. Use an actual film crew instead of a TV crew. Also use more practical effects.

This was my favorite movie growing up, and I just found out that they wanted him as the T-1000.

Game changer

Aliens shot on Super 35 and framed at 2.35:1 instead of 1.85:1.

Right it changes the entire movie. "Kyle" is defending against the Terminator. Telling a story of how John found a way to send him back twice. In the climax the Terminator finally damages "Kyle" showing he is a Terminator. Then we get the Come with me if you want to live. This changes the entire dynamic of the father figure, and "Kyle" teaching John to look out for himself. Trying to convince him to give up and forget the war.

I wouldn't change a damn thing with my favorite movies. That's why they are my favorite movies.

I'd remove most swearing from my fave films, since I think there's really very few (if any) instances where it benefits the story. Same thing with sex scenes - again, I don't really like them.

Otherwise, it would be on an individual case basis. Something like Back to the Future, for example, one thing has often bugged me...and that is how Biff goes from being a bully for most of the story to a would-be rapist closer to the finale. I've heard of how alcohol influences people, but to do that much of a character switch that quick? It just doesn't make much sense to me.

I wish Katie Holmes would have reprised her role as Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight. I would've made that happen if I could.

Not really, apart from knowing how escalations in human behavior work, coupled with attitudes to women were like in the 50's. It fits with his entitlement that he would end up trying to rape someone. He was clearly a nasty piece of work from the first scene.

How is that against his character. Both are about power and control.

I would exhaustively reshoot and re-edit Blade Runner to make it more accessible and comedic, because the film as it is is just too depressing. Like, cheer up, Deckard. Rachael will drop multiple Fortnite references in her introduction, and Batty will dab at the end of his 'tears in rain' speech, which I've always considered lacking. Also Daryl Hannah's scenes as Pris will be reshot with Tom Holland because he's the only actor that exists, apparently.

My improved version of BR will end with Deck picking up the origami and yelling at the camera, 'Guess that makes me a skinjob, my dudes!' And then Rachael takes a shit on the patriarchy.

Booksmart - I don't like the pizza guy scene. It's not particularly funny and the way they both act is kind of out of character.

The Muppets (2011) - Put back in the scene explaining Tex Richman's backstory and why he can't laugh. The film mostly gets away with it until it specifically references that he can't laugh, and then has clips in the credits where he gets his laugh back that are so awkwardly edited and stick out like a sore thumb.

Compose Blade Runner, Alien, The Bridge on the River Kwai, The Apartment, Yojimbo, Apocalypse Now, 2001: A Space Odyssey in taller aspect ratios. That means shooting them differently and arranging everything differently during filming. Scope is cramped and a few of those movies have spherical distortion, where things not at the center look rounded. That doesn't mean that scope movies can't look splendid. They can and often do. I love the way all the movies I listed look. But I bet they'd look better shot taller and flat.

At the end of the brilliant "Danny Boy" sequence in Miller's Crossing, the one detail the Coens should have added would have been Albert Finney re-lighting his stogie on the white-hot barrel of his tommy gun.
