Default Alien (1979) 4K HDR

Checked my iTunes library earlier and I'm pleased to say that Alien has had its 4K HDR upgrade. Looks very good on my 65" OLED TV.

But not for those who purchased Alien Directors Cut Version.
Does anyone know if this version from iTunes will get upgraded or do I have to pay another £8?

When did you get the upgrade? I'm still only seeing the listing in HD.

The listings can sometimes take time to update. It took over a day or two before I saw the listings for "The Karate Kid" (1984) to be upgraded on my end after it was reported here.

On my copy both versions play in 4k as the DC is an extra thats a good bonus. The only other title I have seen that happen with so far is Deadpool 2.

I redeemed through Vudu, no 4K just HDX. I am not happy about that.

What he means is the the version listed in his library is listed as Alien: The Directors Cut, pretty much identical menus & features wise except for the playback menu order as the Directors Cut version has the Theatrical as an Extra whereas the Theatrical version that’s currently available has the Directors Cut as an Extra. Unfortunately that particular version will only playback in HD for both.

Bought all of Aliens in itunes before the Fox 4k code stuff had been sorted out. Glad Disney merger didn't stop this from happening.

Still confused. Are people who owned the HD version in iTunes seeing them upgraded to 4K now? Or is it a separate purchase?

If you purchased the previously available Alien: The Directors Cut then no there is currently no upgrade.
If you purchased Alien then yes you’ll see the 4K upgrade.

Provided that purchase was purchased/redeemed via iTunes, and not ported in via Movies Anywhere, unless the port came from redeeming the 4K code in today's 4K Blu-ray release.

Keep forgetting about the US with MA, no MA in the UK so everything in our libraries are direct iTunes.

That's too bad. iTunes only offers free 4K upgrades to iTunes HD purchases.

I won't have a 4K TV until after the summer (it keeps getting pushed back ) but glad to hear the alternate version got 4K too as I bought the same one as you.

I disappointed that they changed the menu though. The computer graphics were nice and the movies in the series had them. Putting clips there instead is a bit dull.

Can't have it all I suppose.

Just wondered if anyone knows how I can redeem the code from my US copy of Alien (purchased from Amazon.com) onto my UK iTunes account?

I was going to redeem it on MA, but I didn't realise that MA was US only...does this mean that I won't be able to redeem the code to my UK iTunes account?

Thanks...

You can’t redeem US codes into a UK account.

That's a shame...I am guessing that the US digital code that comes with my copy of Alien is all but useless for me then?

Not unless you have MA and a US iTunes account.

I don't have MA, but I do have a US iTunes account...but if I try and setup a MA account, it obviously knows I am in the UK (from my IP, I guess) as it won't let me register, telling me that MA is for US only...

I could probably setup a VPN and setup a MA account that way, but for the hassle, I might as well just leave it, as I have the UHD disk to watch it...
