I think it has to do with the way the power transformer is connected to the mains. US version uses only half (120V) of the primary winding, while the EU version uses the full primary winding (240V). Just a guess.

Just to let you know, all else being equal, 140/90 watts is 1.92 dBs more volume sound difference.

There could be several explanations, but the bottom line is probably that both have the same power, and suggests that people really shouldn't be worried about small differences.

There are many different ways to measure power, especially with multi-channel amplifiers. These are the typical differences:

Number of channels driven - one, two, five, seven?
Criterion for max power - clipping, 0.01% distortion, 1% distortion?
Speaker load used - 4 ohms, 6 ohms, 8 ohms?
Continuous or instantaneous power?
Safety certification constraints related to overheating?
Claimed or measured power?

Each one of these factors can account for the variation mentioned, and there's not way to make a fair comparison unless all those variables are levelled.

regards, Nick

Probably because our dollar is worth so little at this point they have to use smaller amps to make a profit

Thank you George Dubya
