USA Sonic Prime: The Complete Series Blu-ray

NCircle/Mill Creek will be releasing Sonic Prime: The Complete Series on Blu-ray on June 24th. It will come in Steelbook packaging.

Back Cover:

[Show spoiler]

Quote:
Our story is comprised of four chapters, or Levels as we like to call them, and begins in the familiar setting of Green Hill Zone. In this lush, natural setting we meet Sonic who is digging life as is. We also introduce a new generation of kids to all the beloved classic characters of the Sonic universe, setting the stage before everything turns upside down. When Sonic ignores the advice of his closest friends during a battle against Dr. Eggman, he accidentally triggers an explosion which creates a multiverse of bizarre parallel worlds. Set upon by enemies new and old, Sonic navigates these strange new worlds and meets wacky versions of friends who do not recognize him. However, they are key to fixing what Sonic broke. Sonic must reconnect with his friends, see them for all their complexities and lead them as a true-blue hero before the multiverse scatters into oblivion!

It’s already got a Blu-ray release. A standard definition on Blu-ray release.

I believe the other TV series except SatAM and Underground are on Blu-ray, but unfortunately with the exception of Boom, are presented as SD on Blu-ray. What doesn't make it better is that I believe the DiC cartoons were mastered as videotapes instead of say 35mm film (although filmed as such, I believe all editing was done on videotape), which would make it much harder to restore to HD in such a case. That's let alone assuming the original film masters aren't lost or destroyed.

I'm surprised the Sonic X anime wasn't remastered in actual HD instead of SD; for sure at the very least it could be remastered to HD resolution even if it is a bit of an upscale-like version like Simpsons or SpongeBob. Then again, it's likely transferred to videotape which makes it much harder to work with.

Weren't there 3 seasons of Sonic Prime? Doesn't that mean anyone who bought the first 2 sets would have to buy this set just to get the last season? Seems like bad news if that's the casr.

So, with this release, almost every animated Sonic show will be available physically.

Blu-ray:
Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic X
Sonic Boom
Sonic Prime
Knuckles (Not an animated show, but still)

DVD only:

Sonic SatAM
Sonic Underground

Currently OOP:
Sonic the Hedgehog OVA (Sega lost the papers)

For the topic of this, I hope season 3 gets an individual release for those that bought the first two.

As someone who bought the individual seasons, I hereby claim my 'fell for it again award.'

Nitpick territory here, but while I don't think the artwork used is terrible, I do wish they had gotten one of the comics artists to do cover art for this release, ala the Sonic Boom steelbook:

That same artist did a poster for Sonic Prime that's way better than the current steelbook art.

Wildbrain: You did remember there were 3 seasons, right?
Ncircle: THERE WERE 3???

This makes me really glad I canceled my preorder for season 1 after the artwork reveal. Not releasing season 3 individually for the people who bought seasons 1 and 2 despite being 1 season in episode length for all 3 "seasons" is a new low.

Huh. So the separate releases were REALLY pointless, weren't they?

It's a shame it's not in Latin Spanish.
