Default KITE (1998) - Allegro release on blu-ray

Apparently a company called Allegro has released this, as it has been in limbo for a while now. No reviews that I am aware of, so I guess one of us will have to "bite the bullet" to see if this is worth the purchase.

Here are a few links as to where you can get this:

Blu-ray.com and Amazon link
Ebay link

I've sent a PM to the Ebay seller to see if he can post a pic of the rear of the KITE blu-ray (for specs).

I would love to know if it's Uncut. I doubt it is but if anyone gets it and can confirm that would be awesome

It's not from Allegro. It's from Animeworks which is a label of Media Blasters. I thought Media Blasters didn't exist anymore.

It's also on Hulu so you can check over there how the quality is.

EDIT: There is also a topic on the anime forum here. Apparently some scenes are in SD.

Yeah, I don't know what this Allegro bidniz is all about. Media Blasters worked on it and I'd assume they released it unless they gave it out to another publisher since MB is barely crawling along these days. They've been updating about it on Facebook and have even said some Best Buys should have received copies but MB Blu-ray releases have always been f***ed so you never know when or where to get it.

It's the non-porn version, and yeah, the transfer is available on Hulu. It looks beautiful when it's actually in HD, but several shots in the second half are culled from a standard def source, and a really wretchedly ugly one at that. It's Legend of the Overfiend all over again.

Here is the HUlu link:

Overall not bad, but it's still puzzling as to why there are even any SD scenes to begin with. I guess we're going to have to wait for either a Japanese or German blu-ray company to get a hold of this and OVERFIEND if we're ever going to get this right.

Then again...

Someone knows if the Blu-ray of the movie is region-free? https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Kite-Blu-ray/113594/

The Uncut version is back up or preorder with a 11/20 release date! It will be interesting to see if this actually happens. I know this one has been listed, cancelled, changed, never released.. so many times. I don't know if it will show any improvement over the DVD, but it would be interesting to see if it finally comes out this time! There is a coverart at least!

What? Uncut? Interesting... Previous blu was a disappointment. I wonder about this one.

And damn... Someone should get on Mezzo Forte remastered (and uncut) blu-ray too.

Here's a link to the release -- It's really hard to say how likely it will be. I don't know if Kitty Media is anything like some of the other smaller studios that do actually release something, just in crazy limited quantity. I know ones like TokyoShock have many of their titles "released" in super-low quantities, or sometimes not released at all but still show as released.

Kitty Media is just another label of Media Blasters just like Animeworks. Kitty Media is for their adult/hentai videos so that would make sense here.

MB probably has OCN, but not good quality telecine for FX scenes. They used some shitty source (torrents?) to replace those scenes, it feels like. Urotsukidoji blu release is complete crap, though.

By the way, I know Gatchaman blu-ray collection has similar issues with OVAs. OCN footage looks fantastic, but some FX scenes were sourced from SD and look drastically worse, but not as bad as on Kite blu.

Wow.. Finally after how many years? they're actually releasing this it seems!

The way they're stacking these discs do worry me a bit though! I have to wonder if they're pressed or just BD-R's.

I thought this was released already as a censored version and in not so good quality?

If this is the completely uncut version, in OAR and excellent quality then it'll be a day one purchase.

Censored version had shitty SD inserts (2 minutes overall) on top of being censored. Anyway, looking forward to this one. Even if it has the same SD crap, if it's fully uncut it's still the best version overall. Besides, I still own the DVD.

And hoping for Mezzo Forte too (not DSA).

Mezzo Forte would be nice too, never saw the DSA series though. I also own both Kite and Mezzo on DVD, never letting these go.

Honestly, I'm not expecting much in terms of quality on this one. I'd be surprised if we get anything more than a "DVD on Blu Ray disc" with this. I don't think Media Blasters has ever been known for their high quality.. it would just be nice to have a good copy of it!

It's the biggest question at the moment - if it's HD from OCN or an upscale. The previous release was 95% HD from OCN.
