Default Untitled Climate Change Project by Fernando Meirelles | Netflix

Quote:
Acclaimed Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles said Tuesday that his next film will be another project for Netflix, like his current film, “The Two Popes.”

The new feature will be a drama about climate change, Meirelles (“City of God”) told a masterclass at the Mumbai Film Festival, where “The Two Popes” is screening. “I’m not going to tell what the film will be, but hopefully it will be shot in September, and it will be a Netflix project,” said Meirelles, who is also executive producer on U.N.-backed documentary “The Great Green Wall,” which premiered at Venice this year.

“People don’t like to read or talk about climate crisis, because it is quite scary,” Meirelles added. “The challenge is to make a film that is watchable and that engages people. I think it is coming out quite nice.”

The film has some sequences set in Bangladesh that Meirelles plans to shoot in India. [SOURCE]

Meirelles is actively engaged in stuff related to environmental issues. This project shouldn't really be a surprise to anyone who knows him.

I can't believe that it would be, no.

It will definitely be worth checking out, I should think.

Oh boy. Here we go. Tell ya what, I’ll pay to see this if there are numerous scenes of Hollywood elites giving up their 3 mansions, exotic car collections, yachts and all other "environmental killing" behaviors. Otherwise? Nah, not interested in some propaganda that tells me how to live and what to do. Sorry, we are a free people.

I'll watch it since I've enjoyed all of his narrative films.

City of God is a masterpiece. The Constant Gardner and Blindness were also terrific.

Meirelles' films have always dealt in similar themes involving crime, social class/status, environment, healthcare, etc.

Based on this website, people seemed to think politics and social issues were put into movies in the last 3 years.

Certain forum members might reject this movie not only because of politics but also because the director badmouthed the MCU yesterday.

To be fair The Avengers should fight climate change too.

One of Tony Stark’a first scenes in The Avengers is him having Stark Tower run on renewable energy. So in that world, they are.

How do you mean? Did he lash out at the MCU?

As if Meirelles - or anyone worth their salt - should consider good a movie they're otherwise uninterested in just because it mentions in passing something they might agree with.
