Default Best Films? The 20th century's last 2 decades or the 21st century's first 2 decades?

We are at the end of the first twenty years of the 21st century, which has me wondering which period was better for filmmaking: the last two decades of the 20th century or the first two decades of the 21st century. I have my ideas, but I don't want to bias the polling.

1980 through 1999, by far.

Oh, come on. Is this even a serious question?
80s and 90s> what's come since by 15,000,000 million light years.

I've looked through my collection and I'm finding as many great films from the last 20 years as I do from the 20 years before. While I think that 1999 was one of the greatest ever years for cinema, overall the 90s are my least favourite decade for filmmaking. This is offset by the 80s which several of my all time favourite films are from. My favourite decades are the 50s and the 70s.

I voted for 2000-2019, as there are a huge number of favorites and very impressive films. I like the 80s and 90s a lot, but I'm pretty sure that these last twenty years grab me more.

And 59% of my collection is from the last two decades. However, that's misleading since I so rarely get to the theater and the window between theatrical release and Blu-ray has become so narrow, this is the way I mostly see new releases now (or streaming).

It's a serious question. Certainly, television has been far superior in the 21st century. But cinema is different. Or is it?

Right now I'd favor the 80s & 90s, but only slightly. For me it will take more time to look at the last 20 years - especially the last decade. Since the 80s & 90s, I've found that some films I loved didn't hold up while others seemed to get better. And then there are the ones I discovered years later. The same will be true of these last 20 years.

However, if you were to ask me to add in the 20 years previous to that - the 60s & 70s - I would unequivocally say that it would wallop them both.
