Default What's the scariest movie you've ever seen?

Not a lot of horror films genuinely scare me, anymore, but I did rent Dead Silence from Blockbuster back when Blockbuster was still a thing and watched it downstairs late at night alone with no lights on. Worst decision of my life, it literally gave me sleep troubles for a couple nights afterwards. I literally shielded my eyes.

When the hype around The Blair Witch Project being real footage when the film was released. That movie paralyzed me for the rest of the night after coming home from the theater. Of course now that we know it's fake and when I watch it today, it seems silly.

It would be impossible to name one film. There's different types of scary, and things which scared me as a child don't scare me now (and vice-versa).

Since a lot of people will mention The Exorcist, I do want to say this movie has never scared me. Not as a high school student, not as a young adult, not as a man in his forties. Decent movie, but not scary.

Mmmm, so far in my life, Invasion Of The Body Snachers (1978) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

For me, it's definitely and without question The Exorcist. And ironically at the time I saw it, which was somewhere around 10 or 11, I think I had been even inside a church once in my life. I've never been religious in the slightest, so this film should have had little effect on me. But it ended up being quite the opposite. I was absolutely terrified. I still am now, so many years later. Just thinking about it creeps me out.

I saw “The Strangers” when I was way too young and that movie traumatized me.

No doubt.

It has been ever since I saw it for the first time in 1987, I'll never forget that...

It just brought that trauma back, as well as being a really well-made film in its own right.

Another vote for The Exorcist. The only movie I ever watched peeking through my fingers.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the only movie to genuinely scare me. I certainly don’t hold it against films if I don’t get scared. It’s actually kind of the opposite as I really don’t ever want to watch TTCM ever again.

I won't bore anyone with my actual arguments against this POV, since I've voiced them many times before.

It's a (damn funny) line from Scream 2.

The Fly (1986) - not so much scary as it is gross. Still turns my stomach. having said that, bloody fantastic effects!
