Default Lawrence of Arabia in 4K?

I just visited the Academy Award website the other day and found,to my surprise, that it had been remastered in 4K a few years ago. I'm wondering if there's ever been any serious talk about releasing it on a 4K disc.

Anyone seen anything?

I'm sure it was already remastered in 4K. Sony just hasn't released it yet. But it will happen eventually.

Outstanding!! Athough $110 is pretty steep I'm also interested in Ghandi so maybe I'll sell the other two on e-bay.

Some countries are getting a double-feature of just Lawrence and Gandhi, so it might end up being easier to just import one of those.

But don't 4K discs have region codes as ordinary blurays do? And wouldn't there be a conflict between NTSC and PAL? I have a region free "regular" bluray player to play the several European DVDs and blurays I have but I would think that 4K might be different.I once tried to put a British DVD into my 4K player and got a "wrong region" error message.

I remember seeing the restored 4K DCP way back in 2012 at my neighborhood AMC and it looked fantastic. Am anxiously waiting to see what the 4K/Dolby Vision/Atmos experience on my home theater system will yield.

4K discs are all region free, but the blu-ray discs that accompany them may, or may not, be region locked.

Does anyone have info on the stand alone release of Lawrence 4K disc?

EDIT: I read here that there is no such plans: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...27064&page=173

Unbelievable - as in I don't believe that.

My guess is that when Sony announces the next second volume of classics in 4K is when they may start releasing the films from the previous volume in standalone 4K releases including "Lawrence of Arabia".
