Default Xbox One X vs LG UBK90

Has anyone used both of these players for 4K discs? I've had the One X for awhile now and have watched a few 4K discs, but not many. I'm starting to build my UHD collection so I was wondering if the UBK90 would be a big jump over the X in terms of picture and quality. I believe both will do HDR10 and Dolby Vision, and the LG DV feature is automatic (which is why I chose that over the Sony X700). I do not plan to use either device for streaming because I use an Apple TV.

Any suggestions/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Have owned the oppo, lg 2018 and 2019 models, sony x700 and x800m2, and now use my xbox one x. For me, the lg models were not noticeably better picture quality. I like to have a dedicated player if you are being on physical medium. The x800m2 has good build quality. But i do not think the lg’s are any better than the x. I like the xbox one x because i can do disney+, netflix, hulu, amazon and play uhd’s. Easier for the family.

The LG UBK90 does support Dolby Vision so for that alone, yes I do think it'll be a great jump from the Xbox One X. To me, LG UBK90 is a criminally underrated 4K player, while yes the build quality is more on the plastic side compared to say the Sony X800M2, but in everything else it's a all-around solid player. I too could care less about streaming apps on the player as I have a Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K myself and of course the Xbox One X too for Vudu purposes.

Xbox One X does not support DV through its disk drive, only streaming. That fact alone makes The LGUBK90 a better buy. Unless you don't have a TV that supports DV.

I second this. I've had a UBK90 for going on 2 years, it has been flawless. Super fast loading of disks, and I love the low profile of the unit. I don't use the apps so that is not a concern for me as I use another avenue for streaming. For the price difference between the UBK90 and the other UHD players available, it's a true bargain.

I keep forgetting the name of it, but is the Walmart version of the UBK90 vastly different or is it exactly the same at a different price? I probably should ask in that dedicated thread for it but might as well ask. I've debated getting it.

I got a UBK90 late last year and it had an undefeatable motion interpolation effect going on that was very subtle. Some don't notice it. I tried an older model and it was the same way. I assume it's a line-wide "issue."

I'm fairly certain its basically identical. Just a different model number.

The Walmart UBKM9 and the Costco UBKC90 are identical to the UBK90...just different model numbers to differentiate retailers.

Thanks everyone. My TV does support Dolby Vision, so it looks like I'll go with the LG. I forgot the Xbox DV is only for streaming.

Exact same player, just a different name (in this case the UBKM9).
