Default Blu-Ray Player Hook Up

Right now I'm not expecting HD viewing, but I want to know this so I can be ready for when I get an HD TV set. Is it possible to hook up a Blu-Ray player to a standard deffinition set up and still get a picture + sound? If so, would the picture be some what better even on a standard definition set up? Of would I get a black screen by hooking up a Blu-Ray player to a Standard set up? Kind of curious if I can get a Blu-Ray player now and be already ready for my HD TV purchase.

it will be in standard definition on a standard definition tv so that answers the picture and as for audio it will just be whatever your tv can handle and speakers. so really it will be like playing a dvd but on a hdtv it will be in hd with great picture and sound
