What's the problem? So long as studios keep using it as a reason to release movies, I'm totally fine with it.

That's better than having to wait for a Goonies sequel to get it.

I actually like the anniversary celebrations. Especially if it's done right. In some cases, there's a lot of new press and interviews. I've been following the whole R.E.M. 25th anniversary campaign for 11 years now and I love it. I think it's fun to revisit that era and also get new fresh perspectives. No need to be a Grinch.

In some cases, it's more than celebrated ad copy. There's often a wealth of new material put on the release and new packaging. new interviews and press as well. Not to mention a re-release in theaters sometimes in the case of movies.

None of those things rely on the anniversary, though. Again, the only thing the anniversary does is let them add "Anniversary" in gold letters on the box. If they want to add a bunch of new supplements and have a theatrical re-release, great! I still think they're pretty much going to attract the same people to the store shelves and the theaters, whether the box says "40th Anniversary" or "37th Anniversary".

I hear ya man, but anniversaries are a nice way of celebrating things. We do it all the time. Look at wedding anniversaries. By your logic, they are pretty pointless. Tell that to a woman though and see what frying pan comes at you first. I agree with you though, but I still like celebrating anniversaries. It's fun and life needs more of that.
