After coming back from a ten year acting hiatus Joe Pesci showed the world an acting depth that audiences have never expected from him. Though a beloved character actor, Pesci was typecast as either the wise-cracking funny guy or the threatening mobster in Martin Scorsese films. His role features none of the mannerisms that we associate with Tommy DeVito in GoodFellas, as we've got a soft-spoken old man that takes the seedy nature of his environment into a hidden place, which makes scenes such as the meeting with Jimmy Hoffa all the more compelling.
What actors who have left the industry should get another chance to get a juicy role in a feature film? I'm partial to just watching a film set in a New Mexico retirement home where Gene Hackman encounters Jack Nicholson and the two legends just chat for hours about everything. |

1) Daniel Day Lewis (Hopefully Scorsese or PTA convince him to come back for another role).
2) Jack Nicholson (I can't fathom that The Bucket List and How Do I Know are his last two movies, i want his Phantom Thread) 3) Gene Hackman, even though he's 90, and he hasn't acted for 16/17 years, I think he still has it. |

Dennis Franz hasn't appeared in anything since "NYPD Blue" ended in 2005.
I believe he retired from the biz, but I would love to see him back in something whether it's film or TV. |

I would love to see Connery, Hackman, and Nicholson make at least one good film again. Connery is my all time favorite and I'm so unhappy with the last couple flicks he made... he deserved so much better.

Connery and Hackman are both 90. Saying you want to see them in the movie again is pretty much the same thing as saying you want to see them young again. And let's be honest their health probably isn't awesome.
And there aren't a ton of roles for 90 year old actors besides the kind of stuff that Christopher Plummer is feasting on. I'm thinking that if the movie is a flashback where the older actor appears in the prologue in the epilogue like James Garner did in that one movie. That might work. But then it's almost gimmicky you to find a younger actor that remind you of the older actor. How about actors who are in their 60s and 70s? |

Jack Nicholson - can't really say much about a comeback he has been consistantly making movies for decades now. It isn't like he has taken a break. He already had his comeback. The Departed (finally getting another good film since As Good as it Gets). Gene Hackman - mabe about one of these COVID nursing home situations? As for Joe Pesci - while the character might be a bit unexpected, he is still an actor in a Mob film. Not exaclty ground breaking. I mean I'm thinkign about Robert Downy Jr. (who is it almost hard to think about him falling from grace after his massive non-stop successfull comeback). Or Keanu Reeves who ended up creating one of the greatest series of action films of all time. |
