Default online problems for launch games?

hells bells, Sony, sort it out!

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=20792

"Resistance" won't use the PS3's built in buddy system, Sony didn't give the developer enough time to use the appropriate code libraries! They could release an update I guess, but even so, grrrrrrr.

Last I checked: Resistance is going to have 40 man online right out of the box.

Who cares how it's done, as long as it's done well, which it will be simply because it has to be and needs to be.

There's a lot of FUD and misinformation in that article. I'll have to pick it apart later. Right now I don't have the time.

Remember: Sony has had a full year to watch MS, watch LIVE, watch the 360...and learn.

That's the one advantage of not coming out first: You learn from your competitor, see what works, see what doesn't, and then move from there.

I'm not worried about it.

IGN has reported that the launch titles won't play with firmware 1.0 so Sony already provided with 1.02. It could be that 1.02 would have fixed this problem already.

I'm not gonna get too worried about it because it might take you at least three hours to just play the game all by yourself. In the three hours, you can already have downloaded 1.02 and ready for the multiplayer mode.

There will be glitches in the first few months but hopefully it won't be too severe. No launch is without problems. Only the 360 fanboys are going to get overhyped over glitches, overlooking XBox's own launch problems.

yeah, you're right and by the time the console and game arrive in Europe these issues will probably have been resolved. It's just a shame that days away from the launch there turns out to be an online problem that Sony should have sorted out months ago.

One small consolation for you:

If there's one good thing about you guys getting it after Japan and the US, it's this:

We're your beta testers.

The game will be 40 players out of the box for U.S. players. They even talked of integrating the online aspects to the general user list as well with a patch. Ted Price has already shown the game to be very smooth even with 40 people anyways and judging by Insonmiacs history you know they will not settle for just a good product.

I think you'll be in great hands once the product hits Europe. I do agree that it sucks that it is being delayed for you, but in all honesty I don't really expect to have my PS3 any sooner than you due to the high demand.

I should remind myself of that during Thanksgiving.

The news or rumor that the cutback on Japanese allocation was meant to launch PS3 in Hongkong and Taiwan is seen by critics, HD-DVD and 360 fanboys as another bad glitch by Sony. I just think that they are not looking at the bigger picture - Sony can say that the PS3 IS having a world launch.

I see a typical game console launch situation all the way, at least as far as Sony consoles go, dating all the way back to the first PlayStation.

The only real mistake they made here was ridiculous amounts of overhyping that simply was unrealistic to begin with.

Considering the kind of unprecedented FUD/propoganda/smear campaign that MS has been spearheading against the PS3 for at least the past year, Sony certainly didn't need to help them out with the overhyping.

Oh well. It's all going to come out in the wash starting in a few weeks from now.

Usually these firmware upgrades are provided with the game on the same disc if a game needs it to work properly.

Woo Hoooooo! It was, as usual, a bit of miscommunication. Every PS3 game uses single sign on. But at this point Xbox Live looks to have the edge in other ways.

It is software. At least that. If it's hardware, it'll be completely different. Voice chat, messaging and buddy lists are easy to fix with firmware upgrades rather than the lack of hardware.

It's left hand or right hand to get more or less to the same place.
