‘Talk 2 Me’ In The Works From A24 & Danny And Michael Philippou

In what is no surprise, A24 is reteaming with Danny and Michael Philippou for the sequel to this summer’s cult horror pic, Talk to Me.

Talk 2 Me will be written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman, and directed by Danny and Michael Philippou.

Before the pic’s opening, Danny Philippou told Deadline that given his redrafts, he couldn’t help “but start writing other scenes, scenes of different people experiencing the hands, continuing on these characters’ story. So, there’s scenes for a sequel, yeah.”

A24 acquired the Australian horror film out of Sundance’s Midnight section in the high-seven figure range, with the movie grossing $22M through yesterday stateside; one of the studio’s highest grossing horror pics of all-time. Through its first 11 days, Talk to Me is besting the running totals of Ari Aster’s Midsommar ($17.3M), has already blown past last summer’s Bodies Bodies Bodies final domestic take ($11.4M), and it will soon pass the stateside gross of The Witch ($25.4M). The pic is currently pacing 22% behind the running U.S./Canada total of A24’s highest grossing horror film of all-time, Hereditary which finaled at $44M domestic.

Talk to Me is produced by Causeway Films’ Samantha Jennings and Kristina Ceyton.

Talk 2 Me joins A24 horror franchises like Ti West’s X trilogy, with the upcoming film MaXXXine starring Mia Goth, Halsey, Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan.

A24 took home nine Oscar wins, more than any other studio, this year thanks to their massive indie box office hit ($141.2M WW), Everything Everywhere All at Once, which hauled in seven statuettes including Best Picture.

Rather than a sequel to Talk to Me, which I thought was a good ghost horror film, I wouldn't mind seeing them work on a new story in the horror genre.

But if they have some seriously new ideas to add to this, rather than more of the same, that could be interesting. I'll consider seeing it if the trailer shows new ideas.

Not against a sequel but was hoping the Philippou‘s would be moving onto something new off the back of the first film.

Loved the first one but i don’t think it needs a sequel can’t even see where they could go without it being what we already seen here.

Talk to Me's concept was a metaphor to avoid peer pressure from experimenting with mind altering drugs to fit in; a good theme, but it'll be interesting if they can offer a new theme for the sequel. Things start off "fun" for the characters, and then quickly devolve into repeated horror and eventual doom.

Or if again, it's going to be the Hand statue that you hold and say "Talk to me", but this time, you'll say instead, "Talk two me", and instead of one demon ghost, you'll get two haunting/possessing you. Hopefully a lot more to it than that of course. Or two hands that you have to shake, I don't know.

Bring in some new evil ghosts/demons that take things up a few notches.

Will be interesting to see how clever they can make a sequel, or if it's just a continuation from where things left off or how the hand became possessed, which is what I'm thinking this could be.

A sequel to Talk to Me reminds me of a sequel to Smile. It's going to be a real challenge to keep the audience guessing and on edge in a sequel since we know understand the rules. Change the rules up is one way. Notice there was no sequel to It Follows?

I didn't like the first one. Felt it had poor character development and story wasn't that interesting. Glad others enjoyed it. Just wasn't fore.

I think some movies have been on a PS2 Driv3r trend lately, with trying to include the 2 or 3 or 4 into the title to be clever.

Expend4bles being a recent example too.
Talk 2 Me, on paper is unique, but when speaking about it, it'll still be referred to as Talk to Me 2. So I agree, not the most clever title afterall.
