Hopefully they’ll take the time to give this a decent encode - the UK blu ray is riddled with banding through the entire movie.

Banding is very intense in the boat section of the movie.

Any opinions on the canadian blu compared to the uk? I find it strange that IFC is only now just releasing this on blu years later, and, with their current self-released blu output almost non-existant, releasing it themselves instead of licensing it out to shout or criterion.

I don't know. Maybe this is IFC turning a new leaf and deciding that they are just sitting on so many titles that deserve blu ray releases and they wanna get those out.

I have the Canadian disc and the banding is awful.

MPI Home Video has the following written on their blu-ray product page:
Quote:
Key Marketing Points:
Blu-ray release due to high demand of the DVD - over 56k units sold
Starring international superstar Mads Mikkelson (TV’s Hannibal, Doctor Strange, Casino Royale)
From acclaimed director Nicholas Winding Refn (Drive, The Neon Demon, Bronson)
Will appeal to fans of The Witcher, Vikings, and Game of Thrones

More likely to appeal to fans of Refn and Hannibal...

There's other IFC titles I would love to see released (Sightseers and Berberian Sound Studio being a few off the top of my head) so I hope this becomes a trend.

Maybe the Witcher.

But this film is so stark in comparison to the listed shows.

Wouldn't that be incredible? I mean, well into blu-rays lifespan they were still releasing most of their titles on dvd only, probably two thirds of their discs at least, and some of their most interesting titles, too. Shout and Criterion won't touch them, either out of their or IFCs disinterest or they don't have access to the IFC catalogue prior to a certain date. Soooooooooooo many titles of theirs wasting away on an outdated format. It's a shame.

I'm a fan of Refn for the most part, but I thought this was unbelievably boring.

This and Neon Demon are the only 2 of his movies I can't stand.

I have the Danish/Scandinavian release and it has the same banding issues. As far as I know, all releases of this movie have the same banding issues, so I'm not optimistic about this one. Unless they track down the original source file, like the German release of Under the Skin.

Well this is a surprise. I've had this on my wish list for awhile for the Canadian release but it's OOP.

I won't pay $25 but glad it's finally getting a U.S. release. In when it's under $15.
