Lionsgate is releasing Civil War on 4K? That'll be nice.

I wish a24 and Lionsgate would crank out more UHDs.

Exceptional news, it'll surely be a knockout disc. Unfortunate that they didn't do the same for Men and The Iron Claw.

I already got it and shared my thoughts: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...0&postcount=15
BDInfo graph: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...1&postcount=19

After that, I immediately offloaded the Mediabook again. Civil War will be released by the same company in Germany. That's why I'm so happy about the Lionsgate release.

Gotcha, thanks for the clarification.

What are the most reliable labels in Germany? (for Blu or UHD)

The best labels are Subkultur, Camera Obscura and Wicked Vision. These are very small labels though. A good size comparison would be the Vinegar Syndrome partner labels. They routinely employ the best authoring house in Germany (LSP) which makes the vast majority of their releases quite special. Plaion Pictures is bigger and they're generally solid when it comes to BDs. Some of their catalogue UHDs are brilliant (Argento's Opera for example and one of my top 3 favourite UHDs, Rider on the Rain https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Der-a...lu-ray/321516/). They also use LSP mostly, if not for all their 4Ks. I've discussed many of these in the international thread.
Capelight is worse, they tend to be on the level of Kino Lorber. Many of their UHDs are terrible but they recently started to use LSP for two UHDs and the difference is gigantic. Leonine, formerly Universum film, should be avoided if otherwise impossible. They're exclusively catering to people that view German dubs. It's a horrid label but they license so many films, such as all the Lionsgate and A24 films.

People keep saying this, that "oh, this movie is going to be so controversial" and stuff, but it's pretty much the other way around. This is like the least controversial approach to a topic like this, because the movie isn't about the conflict at all, it's about photojournalism, with a clear "War is bad" message.

The most controversial thing would probably be the marketing, cause the movie really isn't what the trailers were hinting at.

There really is no way this film will not be controversial, no matter how hard they try.

The hard politics and how they relate to current day actual risks (from divisive powers that definitely lean one particular direction) are not even thinly veiled.

But that's exactly what I'm saying, the movie is too surface level from a political standpoint, it doesn't take any sides or lean in any particular direction. They even go the extra mile to set it in an alternate history version of the US.
So I don't really see why anyone would be triggered or feel attacked by this movie, when it's so vague it could've been set in any country and it would've made no difference.

If people are angry or disappointment with the film, that'll likely come from the bait and switch marketing and the fact that this isn't really a movie about a war, but about the journalists.

It's like you didn't even read my words.

But never mind. Time will tell if it becomes a controversial film—I'm guessing that it will, for reasons I won't detail for fear of closing this forum.

I think the "controversy" (loosely defined, as it wouldn't exactly be on the front page of the NYT or WaPo) will be confined to the angrier corners of social media. There are a small but extremely loud set of people who have to make everything about politics. In their eyes, films like this one are fascist propaganda because they don't scream loudly at the audience for two hours about how Political Party X is leading us straight to hell, this upcoming election will be our last one before Candidate Y does Thing Z, etc. (Twitter/X and Bluesky are great places to watch these people having daily fits.)

Fortunately, these people are idiots and minimal in numbers despite their shouting. Maybe it's just me but I suspect most people are burned out after all the screaming the past few years, and just want to get on with their lives. They've got better things to do than get wound up over a film using a plot that triggers a relatively small handful of angry weirdos.

People are upset on social media of the new map A24 put up detailing the different factions…

Biggest reaction is to California and Texas aligning to become the Western Forces. Since today, we are in a Cold War with each other. So every comment is how that would not happen.

Very good film. Pretty crazy that this movie also has a "Joel" on a road trip across a war torn or war worn America.

If A24 puts the proper Dolby Atmos track on the 4k disc it will become a demo disc for the ages.

I saw it in an Atmos theater (going to the IMAX next week) and the sound was insane.

This was very easily the most aggressive atmos/dts x track I've heard in a theater, I usually don't find anything that memorable about pretty much all of the almost ten I've experienced but this one was insane and first that really stood out to me. Even the picture quality was crazy sharp and detailed.
Sucks major balls when on streaming there's a atmos track on a a24 movie but lionsgate doesn't bother to put it on the blu ray.
