Default Mazinger Z: INFINITY

I didn't see a thread about this. It's getting a two-day US theatrical run (yesterday, and today 2/12/18).

Does anyone know much about this? I saw the trailer, and it looks cool. I looked it up and saw that it was a tv series in the 70s. It seems vaguely familiar, and I'm wondering if I might have seen an American version during the 80s, maybe around the time Voltron was on?

I wondering if I'm going to be lost watching the movie, as I'm not sure if I did see any of the show or not, and if its worth catching at the theater.

I grew up playing with The Shogun Warriors in the late 70s.

And that was a collection of various robots from the different anime, right? I've gotta look some of this stuff up. I'm leaning toward seeing the movie tonight, which might be my window back in.

That's what I was thinking of using. It is listed in the app at my theater, which is an AMC, so I'm assuming so.

You know, I just noticed that Mazinger is a Fathom event, so I'm not sure if moviepass would be accepted and I don't think I want to risk wasting my time to drive over and try.

I vaguely remember the show from when I was a kid...wasn't there a villain who was split right down the middle, literally half-man, half-woman?

Yeah, there was. And I think they used both a male and female voice actor.

You guys are all old if you watched this growing up. I too watched it in mid 70's on someone else's B&W TV because my family was too poor to have a TV back then... Robots were awesome for a young boy so I had a lot of fun drawing the robot until the Korean knock-off came out, LOL. Even made origami robot head + the docking cockpit thing.

Anyways, just bought the BD and it arrived 2 days ago. Gotta finish Crosscurrent before starting this.

Which drink would go well with this? I liked the taste of Korean milk back then which tasted a lot like half/half. I'll have that with cocoa powder added for good measure. That's a nostalgic trip!

Mazinger Z is as much popular as Gundam in Japan. He's like Elvis. He's the prime robot, the prototype for all Super Robots that came after him. Created by Go Nagai.

In Italy, Mazinger is known as "Mazinga Z". The series has been HUGELY popular, not as much successful as GRENDIZER/GOLDRAKE, but big nonetheless.
GRENDIZER/GOLDRAKE was a huge commercial/social/cultural phenomenon here in Italy, in 1978. Believe me.

The most popular Super Robots series in Italy:

1- Grendizer, known as "Goldrake".
2- Daitarn 3
3- Great Mazinger/Grande Mazinga
4- Kotetsu Jeeg/Jeeg Robot D'Acciaio
5- Mazinger Z/Mazinga Z
