Saw this in the Pre-order list. One of my most anticipated titles. Hope they do a decent job with this one. While I'm, well, pissing myself over the titles WB is pushing through next year, part of me is concerned about whether they're releasing quality product. Less of a concern with WB relative to Universal, but still...

This announcement is IMO very very good news. This is my favorite film. Am looking forward to an announcement of a US version, but would happily buy the Canadian version instead.
Now I'm wondering which Samuel Goldwyn production blu-ray will be announced next. Dodsworth, maybe? |

Oh,yeah...a little heads up : Canadian street date has been pushed back to November 5th.
I believe US edition will occur on a concurrent date. |

Just chatted with someone at Amazon Canada and he told me he would check on this November 2013 release date to determine if it is accurate. I told him that it seemed odd since other Warner releases such as "Easter Parade," "Mrs. Miniver," etc. were being released (according to their site) in January and February of 2013. Will post response when received!

I question WB as the studio. As this film was produced by Samuel Goldwyn (distributed by RKO, but Goldwyn kept the copyright just like Walt Disney), it was owned by The Samuel Goldwyn Company (his son's company--the Goldwyn signature is its logo) until its catalog was sold to Orion just before MGM bought it in the late 1990's; its last DVD was from MGM. Either (a) this will actually be MGM/Fox, (b) WB owns the Samuel Goldwyn catalog in Canada, or (c) the catalog reverted to Samuel Goldwyn Jr. and has been licensed to WB.

the sad thing is I haven't seen Warner ever mention any older Bette Davis films getting blu-ray releases. (the ones from the 30's and 40's)
I certainly hope a few get bd releases, but I'm not holding my breath anymore. Warner has done a great job with many of their most classic films, but in general they don't seem too keen on releasing older--30's and 40's--black and white films on bd from the evidence so far. |
