Default Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers

I was looking to get a blu-ray of Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers, but couldn't find a region A one. I found one that says region free, but have a question. I presume that I'd be able to watch the movie in america, but what about the extras ? Are they region free as well ? I ask because the back of the blu-ray that I saw on blu-ray.com mentions standard definition.

I would assume that everything on a Region Free disc is playable in all regions. The Universal Monsters sets shared extras in both the US and UK versions, aside from an omitted commentary on one of the sets.

I bought a stand-alone Blu-ray of 20 Million Miles to Earth a few months back, because that and Clash of the Titans are my favorite Harryhausen films. In retrospect, though, I should have waited and bought the Region A box set with 20 Million Miles to Earth, Earth Vs. the Flying Saucers, It Came from Beneath the Sea, and The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. I may buy that box set later this year and then give away my stand-alone Blu-ray.

This and It Came From Beneath the Sea were not given stand alone releases in the US. The US releases for these two films are only available as part of the Ray Harryhausen Collection boxset or from 3rd party sellers that have broken up their boxsets. The UK releases sfeatures were SD, which means they might be PAL formatted for the UK release.

This is true for 1080P content, but 1080/50i or PAL-formatted SD content will be incompatible with your system unless you have a player that can convert the signal or a player and TV that can process the signal natively.

That first link is for an import of the UK release.

These are Sony releases so all extras including those in SD are compatible with Region A players. Sony do not convert extras to 50Hz for the PAL countries (and they don't need to either so they save money this way).

I have the all-region U.K. blu-ray. It's identical the the USA edition. Exactly
the same. You're going to love it.

Watched it last night then went through the special features this morning. Really great movie -- not sure I'd ever seen it before.
There was one shot of maybe 5 seconds where the PQ dropped noticeably, so I wonder if it was a restoration.

TRIVIA---character actor Harry Lauter appeared in two classic sci fi movies about aliens landing in Washington, DC: EARTH VS. FLYING SAUCERS and THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL. In EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS, Lauter played the generator technician who is vaporized by the invading aliens. In THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, Lauter played the platoon leader who greets the benevolent alien Klaatu who is then shot by a trigger-happy soldier.

In EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS, Lauter played the generator technician who is vaporized by the invading aliens.

In THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, Lauter played the platoon leader when the benevolent alien Klaatu emerges from his spaceship and is then shot by a trigger-happy soldier.

Anywhere I can get this for a reasonable price? I have no problems with foreign releases, no matter the region.

I'll wait. This is one of the few Harryhausen films I don't own yet.

Great movie! Great Blu Ray. Watched it last night. Maybe it’s blasphemy but I actually prefer the colorized version.

I watched this on TCM a while ago, it’s not dissimilar to a certain Roland Emmerich sci-fi space invaders tale.

According to Ray Harryhausen, it was originally intended to be filmed in color.
