Australia The Punisher (1989) - September 7th, 2016. REGION FREE

Region Coding: A,B,C Confirmed

This release appears to have finally resurfaced. Rather than posting in the Enemy Mine thread where it was previously being discussed, I thought I would give this it's own thread.

Will it have the workprint cut? Those extra scenes don't add much (a little exposition to support why Frank Castle was in the bad books with the mob) but I still like it for completeness sakes. I may finally ditch my Aussie VHS of it, if the new Umbrella disc has the workprint

Default THE PUNISHER 1989 (Umbrella Entertainment) special edition

This new Australian edition might be the most complete PUNISHER Blu-ray (out September 7th) with two workprints AND a Dolph Lundgren interview, coming along the already existing extras (audio commentary, director's workprint, gag reel, uncut version, not sure if the Goldblatt interview is a new one or the French one) 8)

Quote:
EXTRA FEATURES TBC:
1. THE PUNISHER (Workprint 1) feature (93 mins 32 secs)
2. THE PUNISHER (Workprint 2) feature (96 mins 41 secs)
3. THE PUNISHER (Unrated) feature (89 mins 20 secs)
4. *INTERVIEW MARK GOLDBLATT
5. *INTERVIEW WITH DOLPH LUNDGREN
6. AUDIO COMM w/ MARK GOLDBLATT
7. GAG REEL (6 mins 11 secs)

And the original ending showing Castle/Dolph really losing it is priceless.

I'll assume that the Workprints will be quite horrendous looking, but kudos to Umbrella for including them anyway. Would like to see more Workprints of films.. I used to have a five hour one of Apocalypse Now.

One of them is transferred from the director's Beta tape and is in good SD quality

compared to the first that surfaced in the 2000s:

so if the unrated version is listed as a bonus feature? that that indicate that the HD version will be the R rated version? the specs on their page is saying 1 disc so i can't see them having R-rated and Unrated versions in HD plus two workprints in SD.

The info is also listed To Be Confirmed so let's wait (the French edition had 3 cuts on one Blu disc but only one workprint)...

Bonza. I still remember being drawn to the R18 VHS tape back in the day. It was a repeat watcher for me. Still have no idea why my folks let me get

The workprint scenes on YouTube look to be decent enough quality.

It's from a Beta tape (which is much better than a VHS and closer to a DVD) that the director had kept in his possession.

Of course since this is a "workprint" (a work in progress), it has not been color graded and is in the state it was when this version was telecined (transferred) from film to tape...
