Default Operation Condor 2: The Armour Of God (April 17th, 2012)

Operation Condor 2 Blu-ray

This classic is coming to Blu-ray and Amazon has it available for pre-order for $8.99. I was searching Walmart.com for some Dragon Dynasty films I'm missing on Blu-ray and I discovered that they have an even lower price, $6.96. This is great news:

One of my favorite foreign action stars. Jackie Chan is hilarious.

This one was already released as part of the Jackie Chan 4 Film Collection. The PQ is fine but in wrong aspect ratio of 16:9 (should be 2.35 scope ratio.)
Maybe this new release will be corrected...?

I doubt it very much. Asian movies get destoryed in their North American releases, I expect dubbing with scenes missings.

No, Operation Condor 2: The Armour of God is in the correct aspect ratio. Operation Condor and the two Project A films are cropped from 2.39 to 1.78 on the four film set.

I suspect that individual releases of the first Operation Condor would have the correct aspect ratio. I haven't seen the 4 disk set but I imagine that they have two films on a single disk, or maybe all four on a single disk. I've only purchased some of the dual movie sets, where the films were released two films to a single disk, like the Warner Brothers double feature releases.

I can't say for sure on the Jet Li 4 film release because I haven't purchased that version. Nice to know that it has the original aspect video for OC 2.

All the four film packs are single BD-50s.

I was going to say the same thing. I'm happy with having paid $8.99 for 4 movies. No need for an individual release.

You are right! I get the two movies mixed up (stupid New Line re-named them in reverse, different from the original Hong Kong release):

Operation Condor: wrong AR (16X9) But with fine PQ
Amour of God: correct AR (1:1.85) but so-so PQ

Of course both are USA cut, dubbed in English and original music replaced...

Jackie Chan's films have always had replaced music. Least, the ones I have seen. I think I noticed a change when Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was released to theaters and then to home video when original audio with subtitles started to draw in more fans of foreign films.

New Line never had these movies in the US & Canada, they were originally Dimension titles reverting to Miramax.

Operation Condor II (aka Armour of God) looks really good on the 4-film set and I suspect it will look even better given its own disc. Id recommend that one.

I know this is bringing up an older post, but related to this, does anyone know how the quality on the single releases compares to that on the 4-pack release?

Individual versions of Operation Condor and Project A were released today (actually I've seen them for a while at BB, but it seems like today was the official date so you can actually order online now) and I'm trying to decide between the individual releases vs. the 4 pack.

The single versions are on single 25GB discs, and the 4 pack is on a single 50GB disc.

If the quality (which in general seems to be not great) and AR are identical, I'll just save money and get the 4 pack, since you should be able to get it right now for $4.99 during BB's U&S sale.

However, if the quality of the individual releases is better and/or things like AR fixed, then I don't mind buying separately and paying a bit more (about $5.99 each). The main problem would be that I don't think Project A 2 is available as an individual release.

Thanks!

The single releases of Operation Condor and Project A are 100% better than the 4-pack releases. The one's on the 4-pack are cropped from their OAR of 2.35:1 to 1.85:1. The singles are presented in their original OAR. Operation Condor 2 however, is the only one in the 4-pack in its original OAR. I would buy them seperatly because the quality is much better than the 4 pack.

Yeah I purchased Operation Condor tonight at BB for $5.99. It's in the correct aspect ratio and it has an English DTS-MA 5.1 track. The package just reads DTS 5.1 but it is in fact an MA track. It's actually not bad looking for an older Chan film and the surrounds get alot of use. Transfer seems faihtful, didn't notice any DNR. The print is in decent shape but there are the occasional white specks but nothing too terrible. I'd give the PQ a 3 out of 5 and AQ a 3.5.

Question

So both of the Operation Condor films only feature an Enlgish dub, and no original language track????? Do I understand this correctly?

And if so, where can I get the versions with the actual language track?

So far, the only one I have is the second one, which I imported from Hong Kong. Go to DVDAsia. They have original audio with subtitles.

YesAsia.com and DDDhouse.com are ur best bet. Most unfortunately Armour of God (Operation Condor 2) isnt available on an English-friendly blu-ray but if u must have it, an unsubtitled Japanese blu-ray is available.

Yeah, I'm really hoping that Armour of God will eventually get a release. I think it's supposed to get one in Hong Kong by the end of the year. Here's hoping...And eventually remastered versions of the first four Police Story films.
