Default LG BP550 all region free (only the DVD) ?

Hello, I am asking for a friend how has the LG BP550 Blu-ray player (bought in USA) which he suspect being locked to Region 1 (DVD) and A (Blu-ray), and in which he wants to find out it is possible to make the DVD region free ? Is there a code crack or do you have to fix this with hardware (chip) ? I have seen a few listings on eBay with both the DVD and Blu-ray being region free.

at these sites, world-import.com & 220-electronics.com, they both offer two options: Region-free dvd/Region A & Region-free dvd/Region ABC for an additional amount.
you can see what I'm saying here: https://www.world-import.com/lg-bp-5...ray-player.htm
Hope this helps in anyway possible.

Thanks ! I have sent them an e-mail. Hopefully they can tell me if it is a hardware or a software fix.

WI's page specifically says it's a hardware fix. Basically anything from 220, WI or Bombay is a hardware fix; that's what they specialize in.

I just ordered a BP550 myself from 220; thanks to UPS My Choice, I can pick it up at the UPS depot about an hour from now. LG unquestionably makes the best PC BD drives nowadays; hopefully their stand-alone players are of similar quality, or at least closer to Sony than Samsung. Also, this 2015 model was significantly cheaper than the equivalent 2015 Sony (BDP-S5500) and competitive with the equivalent 2014 models (Sony BDP-S5200 & LG BP540). It's small, but then just about all current SAs are.

My BP550 is getting a little tired so I don't use it so much any more but today I was doing some blu-ray region code verification and was amazed that the player let me bypass the region locking on both of the locked discs I tried. All I have to do is press info on the "wrong region" screen, bring up the Options and then go directly to a title number. I really wish I had discovered this earlier!

Edit: didn't work with a Kam & Ronson disc so maybe I just got lucky with my first two attempts (VS and Scorpion)...
