Default HBO Max on Amazon Fire Nov 17

Almost six months after HBO Max’s launch, the WarnerMedia streaming service will finally be landing on Amazon Fire TV and Fire tablets.

The HBO Max app for Amazon’s devices will be available Tuesday, Nov. 17. The launch will bring WarnerMedia’s flagship direct-to-consumer product to Amazon’s estimated 40 million-plus active Fire TV users as well as the company’s Fire tablet customers.

Nice to have it available officially. I've had it sideloaded on mine for awhile, and it works fine, but it'll be nice to not have to worry about manually updating it.

I wonder how long the wait will be for Roku now?

Not long. AT&T will cut the same deal with Roku shortly. Probably this week. AT&T has to get over having to submit to "pipsqueak" company like Roku.

Not sure if it's AT&T or Roku that "have to get over" something. The Amazon deal works the same as the existing Hulu deal. The Amazon channel subscription now includes HBO Max, but the HBO Max content is only accessible through the Max app. I think Roku wanted to force HBO to offer the Max content through the Roku Channel.

Here's the press release for the Amazon support:

Terms of WarnerMedia’s deal with Amazon for the Fire devices are not being disclosed. One of the key sticking points in the deal talks was that WarnerMedia wanted to remove legacy HBO as a channel from Amazon’s Prime Video Channels offering — and the companies’ pact lays the groundwork to do that. WarnerMedia’s strategic goal is to keep customers within the HBO Max app experience, giving it the ability to gather data for recommendations and, starting next year, advertising targeting for an ad-supported HBO Max tier.
