Lionsgate will be releasing the satirical teen comedy But I'm a Cheerleader (1999), which stars Natasha Lyonne, on 4K on August 26th! There is an Amazon Exclusive release up with a cool die-cut slipcover design. This will be the Director's Cut of the film, which runs about 5 mins longer than the theatrical.

This whimsically edgy comedy follows teenager Megan (Natasha Lyonne), whose suburban existence filled with friends, cheerleading, and all-American fun is upended when her straight-laced parents suspect she may be a lesbian. In a panic, they send her to True Directions, a "rehabilitation" camp run by the strict and prudish Mary (Cathy Moriarty), to mount an intervention led by counselor Mike (RuPaul Charles). Megan dutifully follows the program — until she develops feelings for another camper in this timeless, satirical romantic-comedy about self-acceptance and love, costarring Michelle Williams, Clea DuVall, and Julie Delpy.

Happily surprised to see this get a 4K upgrade. The Blu-ray must’ve sold well (Lord knows the movie is popular - went to a screening in Chicago last month that was completely sold out in a 700+ seat theater). Sad to see this is an Amazon exclusive, but oh well!

It's one of my favourites and popular with the gay community. When it came out, critics compared it to John Waters' output.
