Default Do Blu-ray players have better DACs than DVD players?

Is it better to listen to CDs on Blu-Ray players or DVD players. I'm assuming Blu-Ray players have better DACs so CDs would sound better on them. Any thoughts. Thanks.

It all depends on the player really. My laserdisc player actually beats anything I've got in the house for cd audio, but it's probably not a fair comparison since it cost a lot more when it was new than anything else I have.

If you're into your CDs, it's probably worth investing in a standalone CD player, DVD players didn't always make great CD players and I'd imagine it's the same with BD players too.

Plus a CD player will have a decent display, something which is sadly lacking from most BD players.

If you listen through a receiver then I think sending digital audio is your best bet and wouldn't matter what player it is since it would use the receiver's DAC.

I have a Sony DTS 5.1 receiver. Do you think it's built in D/A converter is better than the ones from the CD/DVD/B-RD players?

You would need to be comparing a specific model of AVR with a specific model of BD player.

Your average blue DAC is junk for analog outs. Use the HDMI and let your receiver do the DAC.

If you only have rca ins on the received. I'd get an old higher end component set from a thrift store. Back when a single component was a few hundred they didn't do so much skimping, on a feature few use today (is analog outs on the component)

Speaking in generalities

BD players have far better error correction than CD or DVD players. I have discs which would be unplayable on a regular CD player which my BD player breezes through.

If option of DVD player with good DAC available then i would go for it. I heard Pioneer DVD and Bluerray players gived best sound Q.

Another Q:
What is meaning of Transport feature, i saw in many post/reply
If your player has a transport mode, enabling it will disable all of the player’s analog audio circuitry. Not quite sure why you would want to do that, because as I say with digital audio/video, unlike analog audio/video, it either sounds/looks perfect or it doesn’t sound/look at all.

Interestingly, back when the OPPO UDP-203 and UDP-205 were made, there was a company originating from a city in England called Cambridge who sold OPPO players without their DAC system. I don’t understand what their appeal was.
