Re-Animator, The Burning, Cemetery Man, Dead Alive, The Blob, Demons, Demons 2, Universal's Monsters, The remaining Friday the 13th series, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Silent Night Deadly Night, Sleepaway Camp, They Live, etc. etc. Are any of these classics coming to blu? Nope. But we get Dead Heat in HD. *sigh*

Image can only release what they have the right to.

Some of what you have listed might also be released by Image, since they have a distribution agreement with Starz/Anchor Bay.

Oh I know, I'm just mean in general. So many studios are just sitting on titles that people are salivating for. I just don't get it. Do they not want to make money?

It's funny this got posted as I just watched this today on my DVR. Was thinking to myself..."wonder if this will ever get a Blu release"?

Wait wait.. you diss Dead Heat yet praise instantly forgettable trite like Silent Night Deadly Night and Demons 2?!

At least Dead Heat kept me entertained. I mean, any film featuring a re-animated cows carcass wreaking havoc is a winner in my books.

Hey, we all have varying taste in film and if you're a fan of the movie, that's great, you're getting it on blu and honestly, I'm happy for those that want it on blu, It's just getting frustrating for me personally seeing the obscure horror titles that I'm not the least bit interested in getting released on blu when the titles I'm waiting patiently for sit in a vault owned by a company who not only have no desire to release them, but won't even sell distribution rights to companies who would gladly do so.

ummmm....Silent Night, Deadly Night is about as perfect an 8o' slasher movie as you can get. My most anticipated blu-ray release ever.

Love the Movie, not as good as Night of the Creeps , or Night of the Comet, or Killer Klowns from Outer Space or From Beyond to name a few of those 80s trash Movies.

I would buy all of those movies on BD (already own Creeps).

I remember I went and saw this one in the theater with my mother. It was her love of all things camp and horror that got me hooked on both.

I might pick this one up when it hits the bargain bin ($5 or lower). It's not the best horror cheese out there, but it's decent enough at my asking price. Piscpo's closing line about bicycle seats is low-brow gold. And I love Vincent Price (so did my mother, which is why my middle name is Vincent).

Planes Trains gets 5/5 for movie rating, yet Dead Heat only gets 2.5?!

I love PTA, but the sickly sweet ending puts it down a mark. Dead Heat has some classic scenes - zombie deli, anyone? - and Williams and Piscopo are a great double act.

I'd give both films 4/5 for movie, but the lack of the audio commentary and deleted scenes means I'll stick with my AB dvd release.

My favourite line (Darren McGavin to Vincent Price):

"Shut up, you old fart!"

Which is why it's imperative, for us to observe the overall quality of these blu-rays for ourselves, rather than to relying on other people's opinions. Everybody's home theater equipment is different in quality, based upon their professional calibrations, set-ups, and so forth.

That's a valid, if somewhat overstated, point, but it doesn't follow from the fact that two different reviewers rated two different films differently. Marty and I would have scored those films the same regardless of whether we'd watched them on Blu-ray, on TV or in the theater.

The real imperative here is not to treat star rankings of films as some objective system of weights and measures in which every 4-star film is somehow "better" than every 3 1/2-star film. The star ranking is just a preview of that particular reviewer's write-up. If you really want to know how the reviewer rates the film, you have to read the whole discussion. (In the case of Dead Heat, it should be clear to anyone reading the review that I'm fond of it, but believe it has major problems.)

People who already know the film don't care what we think anyway. If they disagree with our rating, they say so, often without even reading our reasoning. (I often wonder why anyone bothers. If you already know what you think, why do you care whether a reviewer agrees?) Mostly, they're just interested in the technical comments, but then you seem to think those aren't worth anything either.

All I can say is that, before joining this site as a reviewer, I found its reviews to be very helpful. Not definitive -- no reviewer here would claim that -- but helpful. But you have to read the text. Star ratings, alone, are useless.
