Default Router suggestions for Spectrum?

My nephew is moving into a new apartment. I’m an idiot when it comes to routers and internet connectivity.

I think the account is set up to where they opted only for the modem (no router), and my nephew is to buy his own. I tried to hook it up today, but I didn’t see a router included, I didn’t see any Ethernet ports in the apartment, and my nephew didn’t have his laptop at the time.

What router would work best for 400mbps Spectrum Internet? He games some and does basic internet stuff.

Thanks

I've been using this for a few years now and it has more than lived up to what I needed. In an apartment setting this should prove to be more than enough and should allow for uninterrupted gaming, Streaming. and downloading for years to come.

whichever one you pick, make sure he uses a VERY strong password and tell him NOT to give it to anyone.

i've read/heard so many stories where some people in apartments won't pay for their own internet and leech off of someone else's, instead. and if the password gets changed, THEY get mad 'cause they can't use the internet or "their kid can't do their homework" or some stupid shit like that.

WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG???? In 2012 I got the Netgear WNR2000v4 N300 for $45. It served me fine until I got a 4K TV in 2018. When streaming 4K HDR videos from YouTube through a Roku Ultra HD 4660, I would get lag sometimes.

But now, I have the discovered the joy of streaming 5GHz 802.11ac through the Netgear R6080!!! (On Sale for $37.99).
