Looking forward to seeing how this compares against the best release (Australia Blu).

What are the specs for the Aussie release compared to the US?

Aus has higher bitrate video (over both the MPEG2 and AVC version) which shows more detail. The color timings are different. THe Aus isn't so washed out and the blacks are much darker, cave scenes are pitch black as they should be, IMO. Only downside is audio on the Aus disc is only 5.1.

US MPEG2 vs US AVC vs AUS AVC

Aus is region free with PAL extras (trailer?) May not be US PS3 friendly.

I gotta disagree with Blu_Ray_UK2007 on this one... I rue the day I rented it on DVD... It just never pulled me in or made me believe in the characters... it's going to have to be an impressive transfer to get me to watch it again... that or i'm trying to scare the hell out of the gf

The cover isn't very good, prefer the DVD version. Still no sign of his other film, Dog Soliders for the UK yet

I liked this movie; one things I remember most is how I thought 'I Am Legend' could have learned something from this and used these same, live creatures rather than the fake looking lame CGI it used. The Descent creatures were much more scarier...

Ah finally.. the wait pays off!!!

It's because Part 2 starts it's theatrical run in December and although not as good as the first it certainly sets out to be something special. It's a fun romp with Sarah and..... Juno.... back in the caves and there's lashings of gore and the occasional funny moment

Can't wait to see both of them again!

I saw the trailer for this today. Not quite sure how there's a part two as (adding spoilers below)
[Show spoiler]
it's pretty much looking like she's dead come the end (unless they've ignored the original ending and it's carrying on from the "happy" american ending instead where she makes it out of the cave).

so will be interesting to see.

That's really the only logical way I can think for them to do it.

It's from the american ending where she escapes. Part 2 is a great follow up though, don't let the trailer fool you into thinkin it's drivel

Do you think we'll have the same Encode as the US or will the PiP feature be an on the fly track that you can actually turn on/off throughout the feature

Saw this in HMV yesterday but haven't found any reviews yet. Anyone picked it up, and if so can you post impressions, thanks.
